1st Class Uncorrected Vision Tests

Hello All,

I am a private pilot who went ahead and got my 1st class medical upon renewal just to see if I could in case I decide to fly professionally. Everything went well and I recieved the first class, but I was surprised with the uncorrected vision tests. My uncorrected vision isn't that great and I was surprised that they did the "line goes through which number" test without letting me wear my glasses. I couldn't find it spelled out clearly if the test is supposed to be conducted corrected or uncorrected and the excerpt below is all I found.

I don't have any concerns now, but if my vision got worse I'm not sure I would be able to see the numbers uncorrected. For those with corrected vision, what has your experience been during the 1st class medical for this test?

67.103 (f) Bifoveal fixation and vergence-phoria relationship sufficient to prevent a break in fusion under conditions that may reasonably be expected to occur in performing airman duties. Tests for the factors named in this paragraph are not required except for persons found to have more than 1 prism diopter of hyperphoria, 6 prism diopters of esophoria, or 6 prism diopters of exophoria. If any of these values are exceeded, the Federal Air Surgeon may require the person to be examined by a qualified eye specialist to determine if there is bifoveal fixation and an adequate vergence-phoria relationship. However, if otherwise eligible, the person is issued a medical certificate pending the results of the examination.

I've always done the line goes through the number test with glasses or contacts.

This thread reminds me of the scene from Space Cowboys. "I might be blind, Frank, but my memory's perfect."

I am a private pilot flying a LSA, so my driver's license is important. I just went to the local DMV and took the 'vision test' ... I wear trifocals glasses and the device you have to push your face into to read the letters won't allow you to adjust the glasses so that you are using the correct lens section....I had to guess at almost all the letters, and some how that was OK.

Now Colorado lets you renew your DL over the internet. In lieu of as vision test, you only have to say you visited an eye doctor within the past 3 years. No other requirement. I guess you could have been found to be blind by the eye Dr and yet pass the DMV's requirements because they don't ask the outcome of the eye Dr's exam. Weird.
