surfboard cessna 172 c172 seats storage capacity

Looking to put a short surfboard (5’8”) in a c172. Does anyone have experience doing this? (Most important question) Do any of the model years of the 172’s have a bit more storage? If it allowed to remove a rear seat? Is storage capacity much larger in the 182? Thanks all...
