    Angry Neighbors (as usual)

Even the Air Force Academy comes under fire for this? To be honest, even the low flying airplanes sound quieter than my neighbors lawn mower. http://m.gazette.com/colorado-springs-residents-sound-off-about-noise-from-air-force-academy-training-flights/article/1553148

    College and Aviation

Don't let people turn you away. Everyone has opinions. Do what you have to do to achieve your goals and do it in the way you want. There is never one way that works for everyone.

    College and Aviation

Unfortunately for you it is quite a few regionals so it would be hard to avoid. The airlines hire people straight from CFI even if they don't come from a college program so you'll never get away from this. And the colgan pilots had over 6000 hours combined... Which isn't a ton but I wouldn't say...

    College and Aviation

No the students that are in their junior or senior year are usually almost 1000 hours and CFI,CFII,MEI pilots. We have agreements with certain airlines that come and do pathway programs. One in particular has started to put our students in the system and they do build seniority supposedly, I'm...

    College and Aviation

Do what you want to do. I'm doing an aviation degree. There are a few differences for me though. My parents work for an aerospace company and hire people from my school with my degree for jobs other than pilot. So I know there are other opportunities out there. A lot of people that graduate...

Should I become a commercial pilot?

    Do what makes you happy.

    Air Traffic Controller

I've never had to be cleared. I just call and ask- they usually give me a time and up I go! The only thing they ask everytime is whether or not everyone going up is a US Citizen.

    Air Traffic Controller

If you ever come down to FL I would gladly give you a ride around the Miami area. It's interesting because of the congestion mix of airliners and GA training. You would definitely get to see some interesting traffic calls from our end from the military mix to being squeezed into FLL. It might be...

Report when 7 miles south of VOR...

GPS DME or regular DME in an older aircraft. You did fine by using the GPS. (DME is distance measuring equipment - you don't really get taught too much about using it until your instrument)

    Florida pan handle airspace

St. Augustine, Flagler, and JAX all have been good to me in the past. So hopefully at least that end of your trip will be less stressful! Honestly, I used to make it a point to fly towards JAX because I liked talking to their controllers... They are super friendly. The one guy there will...

    Flying Over Class B

I've never had a problem going directly through the bravo in MCO. I flew through it almost every day this year. They usually just have me go over the runways. The only time they move me around is when I'm IFR.

    student and a PPL PIC

No such thing as an endorsement to fly from the right seat... There are no rules saying what seat you have to fly in to be PIC. As long as your airplane has the proper dual controls you are fine. Of course, it takes a little getting used too, so maybe have a CFI or safety pilot with you when...

    Reporting low altitude aircraft?

No problem. And by the way, you're in airport ops based on your profile. Is reporting this incident something your boss knows about or wants you to do? Just wondering.

    Reporting low altitude aircraft?

Fair enough. Just saying, even though legally you are correct that he was in the wrong (if it is as you say), and everyone who is against you is technically wrong... There is always a little play in the real world. Heck, air traffic controllers let deviations go everyday. There's no stopping...

    Reporting low altitude aircraft?

I think you need to post more often! Welcome aboard!

    Reporting low altitude aircraft?

I don't think I would go out of my way to report this. If I lived in a place where my airport is under constant scrutiny by locals, and in danger of being shut down, I might... Because I don't need some idiot that wants to chance his life ruining my fun! I think that if it is like you...

Flight Safety- Monitor 122.775 vs Flight Following

Flight following is the smart choice, but my school had a practice area frequency, so we monitored that if we were in those areas, and we made position reports for every maneuver. It depends on your situation. I would not monitor air to air unless it was used for practice areas specifically...

Should I get a different instructor?

You get out what you put in. Ask him questions. He's not going to know you're not picking things up unless you talk to him. Maybe start with, "What are we doing today?". And at the end, ask him something. I'm sure if he sees that there is something you want to know, he will start teaching. Since...

    Atp

That would be a nice change of pace for former airline guys. We all start out flying to and from little rural, no perk airports... Why not go back to it! That's all you ever do if all you got is a VFR PPL.
