    ForeFlight Stratus

How critical is live weather to you and your missions? Maybe I'm just old school but I don't see the added value of Stratus. There are tons of sources for inflight weather.. HIWAS, EFAS, even ATC if there's an emergency. I'm sure it's much easier and convenient to pull up and look at on your...

    Bose A20 question

Electronic, artificial hiss is a good way to describe it. I wouldn't say it's "very very quiet" in my case. It's almost as loud as the noise from the street and the computer. Maybe my ears are just more sensitive to that frequency. I don't know if I should wait and test it out in the airplane...

    Bose A20 question

I can feel that the ANR is working since all the sound from the street is gone, but there is definitely a "fine static" hum which is always there even if it's hooked them up to my handheld radio. I can't notice it as much if ATC is talking, but anytime else it's there. I guess I'll just have to...

    Bose A20 question

They're just plugged into my MP3 player right now. Batteries are the ones that came with it. I'll try to find a fresh pair.

    Bose A20 question

Just got them in the mail, and trying them out at home. I turned the noise canceling function on, and I can still hear a very fine, high pitched buzz, almost like fine static on a radio. Is this normal? I've used QC-15s in the past, and when I had the noise canceling feature is on with...

Heads Up: FAA ATC Mandatory Occurance Reporting

I always believed that the 200ft window gave you 100 ft above and 100 ft below your assigned altitude. :dunno: You guys definitely know more than I do.

Heads Up: FAA ATC Mandatory Occurance Reporting

I busted my altitude by 120 ft due to turbulence on an IFR flight this morning. ATC didn't say anything. I doubt they even noticed. There was no traffic around for miles. So the ALPA would recommend I fill out a ASRS form for this?

PPL recognized in other countries? ie.. France

Your best bet would be to find an N registered aircraft to rent. That'd allow you to fly without any sort of conversion or extra paperwork. See here for more information http://flyinfrance.free.fr/Licences/licences.htm

    Required Nav radio(s) for IFR

My point was that legal IFR requires a few more things than a wet compass, a needle and ball, and airspeed indicator.

    Required Nav radio(s) for IFR

I'd hope all instrument rated pilots are able to do that in the case of an emergency with active assistance from ATC, but no one (i hope) would knowingly go up in the soup with that equipment, it's not even half of the required MEL for IFR.

    Required Nav radio(s) for IFR

Yeah the DME really is huge. I won't fly /U in actual unless it's a familiar route I've flown much and I have my iPad with foreflight. Just my personal minimums.

    Commuting with GA

My commute is only 10 mi, but sometimes takes over a hour. I often entertain the notion of taking something like this to work http://www.gizmag.com/go/4628/
