Owning a plane and belonging to a flight club

I continued to be a member of the club for a few years after I bought my Bonanza, but ended up dropping my membership. I maybe flown once or twice in a club plane when my plane was on annual, so it didn’t make much sense to keep paying my dues.

    Panel power with engine off

Don’t overthink it. Plane battery will handle it just fine. When I update my Dynon and Avidyne, I just make sure al external lights are off and turn off my transponder and KX155 to reduce the load.

Got first doze of Pfizer today

My Moderna #1 was not bad too - just a sore arm for a day or two.

Got first doze of Pfizer today

Got my second Moderna yesterday. This one definitely packs a punch. Was OK until the evening, a bit tired maybe. The fun started at night - high fever, aches all over my body, headache. It’s midday now and I still feel like a train wreck, despite Tylenol. If my wife’s experience is any...

(NA) Who knows about 3D printing?

Prusa uses their printers to make their printers (except for electronics, motors, rods and other components that can’t be 3D printed).

    Show off your Plane!

I’ve seen your post on BeechTalk - I had some other plans for this day, but I may be able to make it work. San Diego County is nice all year round, that’s why I live here (I’m based at KCRQ). BTW my panel was done in Ramona :)

    Anybody else get depressed when...

Well, for those of us with older planes, pretty much. Even if nothing is broken, you either replace something proactively at annual time or do upgrades. Then shops get busy, and a small thing that would normally take less than a day of work can drag for weeks.

And they have trailing link landing gear!

(NA) Who knows about 3D printing?

Regarding the stuff to know about materials. In addition to strength points above, all materials have different temp tolerance. PLA is the easiest one to print, but it is the least resistant to temperature and may become soft under direct sunlight in the hot cockpit. ABS is harder to print...

    Show off your Plane!

My 1967 V35 Bonanza Brought my panel to 21st century last October. The only piece of last century avionics left is KX155:

(NA) Who knows about 3D printing?

Another happy Prusa user here. Initially I bought FlashForge Creator Pro, but found myself spending too much time making the first layer consistent and stick well. Ended up replacing a print bed and making my own printer config for Cura slicer to get good prints out of it. At some point...

    Flying an engine past TBO...

Most likely those high RPM starts are hot starts. IO-520 in my Bonanza starts just fine at idle when cold, but it’s impossible to perform a hot start without revving up the engine. I tried all methods and the only way it reliably starts when hot is to open the throttle when cranking.

Must have aviation apps for Apple Watch

It supports the following complication types: 1. Big one in Modular and Infograph Modular faces 2. Big bottom one in Utility and some others 3. Big top one in Infograph 4. Corner ones in many faces Basically everything that can display a line or more of text. It doesn’t support small...

Must have aviation apps for Apple Watch

If you want, PM me with your email and we can troubleshoot together. Haven’t seen this issue yet. Usually when it happens a tap or restart resolves it, so something is not right. Another option is to change something in WatchMetar settings on the phone (like add a favorite) and let it sync the...

Must have aviation apps for Apple Watch

Now I remember why I don’t like going to App Store page. It’s depressing. People give it one star without even bothering to reach out to support. Or that one person that gave one star because it’s US only. Well, I warn about that in the description and even don’t allow to install the app from...

Must have aviation apps for Apple Watch

I usually respond to support requests via the support link, but rarely check AppStore reviews. I might have a look there.

Must have aviation apps for Apple Watch

Can’t tell anything about AeroWeather, but sometimes that happens with WatchMetar too, so I suspect the reasons are the same. Apple imposes quotas on all background refresh activities by allocating “budget” that is shared between all 3rd party complications on the screen. There is no way to...

Must have aviation apps for Apple Watch

Not at this moment. All features that I initially planned to implement are there as it was supposed to be just a simple and fast METAR/TAF app. I may add a few minor features that were requested by many users such as ability to display time in UTC and temperatures in Fahrenheit (for those who...

Must have aviation apps for Apple Watch

Usually tapping forces complication update even when refresh quota is exceeded (Apple is very strict with their quotas). Have you tried to restart the watch?

Must have aviation apps for Apple Watch

You can try WatchMETAR for a bit more intelligent complications (they will prioritize important things to fit the space). Disclaimer: I’m the developer.
