We have both lengths of the Bambi bucket. One of our pilots likes the longer length for the Bambi bucket. The other pilot likes the shorter length like you see here. For them it is preference. If there is any other reason, I don't know.

You are correct. My pilot is always in the right seat. The left seat normally is not in the helicopter because our litter occupies part of that area. But when a pilot needs a check ride, the litter is removed and the left seat is put back in place. That's when I got to fly the aircraft...

Here is the helicopter I am a medic in. Actually got about an hour behind the wheel of it when we had the left seat in for one of our pilot's FAA check ride.
