"Traffic 12:00 5 miles type and altitude unknown "

Happened to me today, and is the reason I ALWAYS get flight following, even if I don't have to, I do. Because I had someone looking out for me, and the guy headed straight for me didn't. I never saw him BTW.

No Cleveland, went to Penn Yan instead...

Had to fly a little lower than I like, 3500msl. Clouds were around 3500 AGL so we had to duck a few times to maintain VFR. My wife forgot the man door in the hangar has a sill on it and she tripped and fell. She's 8 months pregnant (32nd week). She scraped her knee and banged her elbow, but is...

    Just a beautiful winter day...

The forecast today was for clouds and snow, but the snow had settled in the southtowns and there was a clear blue sky between Lake Erie and Ontario, so I went for a quick flight. The taxiways and runways at KBQR were snow covered ice, trying to do the runup was an adventure, had to do it at 1700...

It was a perfect day for flying in the NE today

It had been a month since I last flew, 2 months since I got my ticket so I planned a $100 hamburger run today from KBQR (Buffalo-Lancaster) to KOYM (St. Mary's PA). But first I thought I would freshen up my skills and do 3 takeoffs and landings. After my 3rd one I parked to program the GPS's...

Weather Experts, need your advice, first trip...

I would like to fly from BQR to 39N (buffalo to Princeton) leaving Friday morning, returning Saturday evening. Right now the weather looks good but this being my first long cross country I don't want to screw this up. So I would like some advice on up to departure time, obviously it's a couple...

    First PAX (lotta pics)

My wife and I flew this morning, out over Ralph Wilson stadium (it was right about 1 hour before gametime, so I was above 3000 AGL) over downtown, up the river and over the island, and around Niagara Falls. Awesome flight, smooth as glass above 3500. Wife took the pics. Preflight Takeoff...

Thee guys took off in front of us today, crashed minutes later....

These guys took off in front of us today, crashed minutes later.... They are ok, but holy crap! Just talked to them over the radio at KBQR, we took off right behind them, no indication anything was wrong. http://www.wgrz.com/news/article/140684/37/Small-Plane-Crash-Lands-in-Colden

One benefit of joining a club...

The club had our newest (to us) plane upgraded from it's original 1977 avionics to a little more modern setup, I do not know the final bill but the parts were $24000 alone, before installation. Installation performed at Dunkirk Aviation in Jamestown (which is very confusing to us locals, because...

Best airport in NJ with access to NYC?

One of the first places I want to go when I get my certificate is NYC. I have friends in Princeton NJ and there are lots of airports in between there and NYC, so which one is best for fuel prices and close to the Tracks? Trenton? Linden?

    RV-9A vs CH-650

I'm contemplating building my own, and I know these two models are pretty different, but when you look at the numbers, they aren't (unless the CH-650 is using the "sport pilot" prop, which mine won't). One is classified as a light sport and one is not. But they both can be powered by the same...

Akron airport, CAP sponsored breakfast and rides!

Was a great time, good food, cool planes, I took my wife up for the first time! They were giving airplane rides for $25, and my instructor was one of the pilots. He offered the left seat. My wife loved it, and I go to log a 1/2 hour :) Some pics... RV-6, awesome! There were 3 of these there...

    My quest for my license

Since I had my first flight today I figured I would start a thread documenting all my flights, what we did, how long, what I learned. Today was my first time in a small plane, first time in anything smaller than a CRJ200 :) The plane was a Cherokee 140 (PA-28-140) My instructor is calm and laid...

    172N or PA28-140?

I have a choice of these two for training, the club has two other planes I can use after I'm done, they are Archers. Would it make more sense to train in the Cherokee then? Or just spit time in both?
