    Off to SIMCOM

Sorry I took so long. Been busy lately, Bill Miles has always been a very good instructor. If I have a favorite, it's him.

    St.Patrick's Day Humor

I took a golf trip to Ireland a few ears ago and on our last day we were at Old Head which is the most beatiful golf course I'd ever seen. The weather was picture perfect with blue skies and temperatures in the 70's. As we walked down a fairway a few steps behind our caddy my opponent for the...

Great job 421 pilot at Austin today

FWIW, in the sim you cannot maintain glideslope with one engine windmilling, approach flaps, and gear down. IOW, if one engine packs it in after glideslope intercept (normal configuration:gear down, flaps 15) you can't simply give the good engine some throttle, step on the rudder, and drive it...

Great job 421 pilot at Austin today

Me neither. Like most all retracts the gear is very draggy. A "flat" departure is about all you're gonna get on one engine; especially if they left the rear out. The 421's have a hydraulic pump on each engine capable of raising the gear. They do work much slower on one pump than on two...

    UFO's!

My first job was cooking burgers at a Burger King. One summer they had a helium baloon give give away and we filled 5-6 trash bags with gas and turned 'em loose. I'm probably too old for such now, but I sure caused a stir back then.

    Oshkosh 2006

I fly in to and stay at Fond du Lac. I use a rental car to drive back and forth to the air show. FLD allows me to reserve hard surface parking and I can flyour during the OSH air show with much less traffic than early in the day and after the show. I renew my hotel every year and call for...

Who's in the Venice Florida area next week?

Yep. I'll be there. Driving up from Boca Grande. I guess we'll meet up somehow. If no one else is there, I'll be sitting on the bench out front. My son may come with me (he's still in bed right now).

Who's in the Venice Florida area next week?

Depending on my mother-in-law (she is very ill and 90 y.o.), I am supposed to be arriving Charlotte County (PGD) on Monday. Wife says if we go she doesn't want to stay the entire week but I should be there 3-4 days. Sharkey's at VNC for lunch one day?

    Engine Tone (pitch actually)

Had an instructor riding safety pilot a few years ago while I brushed up on approaches. We were in a Baron and it was dark. Somewhere along the way he lurched and yelled "What was that?" I hadn't heard anything and told him so. After 4-5 seconds he figured out that his headset had touched...

    Another non-towered AP deal

Had the same think at Fond du Lac during Osh Kosh. A nordo Stearman landed ahead of me and stopped on the runway. Then he taxied in a circle on the runway and then he stopped again. Tower was frustratred as was I. After I went around the pattern again and landed he was still taxiing around...
