    Wealth Distribution in America

This is far enough out of my wheel house, I have no clue if you are right or wrong. Historically, I have read that huge disparities have led to revolutions. Some bloodless, most bloody. Dig the people on the bottom not have enough to eat? And that was the real driver? Or was it just a wealth...

    Wealth Distribution in America

Societies where the wealth disparity becomes too great, tend to become unstable and eventually have nasty civil wars. Tim

    Wealth Distribution in America

I was a federal contractor for over a decade (I am back in the commercial space now), one of the trite phrases multiple government staff told me. Is they will never get fired for saying no, but saying yes could hurt their career or get them fired. Our current system is setup with an incentive...

    Wealth Distribution in America

I will disagree on this one. I have taken multiple people from unskilled labor positions, and trained them, sent them to school and turned them into great knowledge workers. People in general, have significantly more potential then we admit too. They often need both an opportunity and sometimes...

    Wealth Distribution in America

In college, roughly three decades ago, I took a social studies class focused on education and industrial policy. I am going to get the percentages wrong, but I think you will get the sentiment. In an agricultural society, e.g. pre-1800, there was a need for 80% unskilled labor, 19% managers...

    Wealth Distribution in America

The tax rule changes in the early 80s were based on the theory of "trickle down economics". E.g. let the rich get richer and they will pull up those below them. Tim

    Wealth Distribution in America

I did not bother reading the whole thread. But there are a number of academic papers on this subject. The few I have read, point too just a few major causes in the wealth disparity. 1. Tax changes enacted in the early 80s; greatly expanding capital gains tax treatments and differentiating them...

A letter from the Southeast United States

A large portion of the last couple pages are showing a few interesting sentiments. 1. Get off my lawn mentality of the old stereotype. 2. Dynastic philosophy where my kids have an absolute right to have the same kind of life I did. And have it be in the exact same location. This model is the...

A letter from the Southeast United States

There was some pretty interesting data analysis by a number of geeks in Seattle; what feels like a decade ago. They basically had the data to back up the position that the zoning laws which started in the 70s and exploded in the 80s are the major cause price spiraling out of control on houses...

    FAA's Beef with ADHD

In my "dream world" :D The FAA Medical branch would flip the script. Now, with such a hard stance, each case is required to come to the FAA. By taking a more nuanced view point, they could let existing medical professionals adjudicate and now have to submit to the FAA. Tim

    New case against flight tracking

Because we could, and inertia are the most likely answers. ADS-B actually dates back to the late 90s if memory serves. But at no point did the FAA every think about updating it to deal with cyber security, privacy or anything remotely related. Tim

    New case against flight tracking

Because it was convenient for a couple of engineers when they wrote the specification. (said sarcastically, I have no idea if there was a reason, I just have not seen one, and it makes no sense to me from a cyber security view) Tim

2024 the year of GAMI - finally?

In terms of lead, there is a source for a lot of the benefits which could be seen. From my limited knowledge, it mostly applies to new or overhauled engines. Look at Rotax. They provide the information when running mogas vs avgas. Tim

    New case against flight tracking

ADS-B is effectively a mandate by the government to broadcast my information. There is zero technical reason in the USA why the 1090 version of ADS-B has a fixed UID, and the UAT-978 has a randomly generated UID. The ADS-B system could have gone with a random generated value in all cases. Tim

    New case against flight tracking

ADS-B was used and cited in multiple stalker cases. The reality is, ADS-B, along with the FAA does not understand cyber security, and many of the issues are fundamental to that lack of understanding. Tim

    New case against flight tracking

I do not have Nate's level of verbosity, but I did find we had similar viewpoints very often, especially around cybersecurity. I have not talked seen him online, or heard any updates in a few years. I hope he is doing better. Tim

    New case against flight tracking

Interesting the tangents this thread has gone through so far. If you want privacy for the airplane registry, contact your congressional critters and advocate for it. I have. You get enough public pressure sentiment, and maybe there might be some congressional action. As for ADS-B; the unique...

    FAA's Beef with ADHD

Doc, My objection to the FAA stance on ADD/ADHD is what my son ran into. He was diagnosed with a very minor case of ADD as a kid, and reconfirmed as a teen, through actual phycologists not the teacher :). He has not taken pills for it since he was roughly ten, he learned behavior modification...

    FAA's Beef with ADHD

Talking passed each other. Everyone I know with ADD or ADHD knows when they are on the meds; assuming it is only ADD/ADHD. I did know a few others with complicating conditions like bi-polar in which case yeah, they stop taking the pills because they are "better". My point and you confirmed it...

    Putting CamGuard to the Test

If you listen to Ed K a few times CamGuard does a few things, two of which apply to this discussion. 1. Helps leave a coating on the metal in the engine to reduce corrosion. 2. CamGuard includes "sacrificial" additives which absorb the combustion blowby. The combination of these two things is...
