    Computing Winds Aloft

I last demonstrated the use of an E6B on my Private checkride in 2010. Haven't touched it since... don't really know how to use it to be honest. I look at forecasted winds aloft while on the ground and my groundspeed on the GPS. Before I had GPS, I just wondered and guessed. :)

    Hangar Waiting List

I guess my question is... how come nothing gets built in America anymore? So there's a hangar shortage--why can't they build? Same with roads, bridges, etc.

When you land at bigger airports, Do you get pressured to land quickly

Yes, I was landing a 115hp Citabria in a gusty crosswind at KFCM. They had maybe 4-5 VFR planes in the pattern and I was landing in front of a King Air coming in on an IFR flight plan on a straight in visual approach. I was already on the ground on the landing roll but still had some...

Would there be any interest in a POA investment club?

Yes. If you went long on anything since 2009 till about 2013, it would be hard to look like anything but a hero. The stock market has been rocky as of late but valuations are still quite high compared to 2009-2013. Wish I knew what the future holds.

    Hybrid Plane Design

It would be cool if this system could be added to say, a Lycoming IO-360 and also remove the conventional starter motor, starter battery, and alternator from the airplane. The extra 40hp electric boost for takeoff and climb would be nice to have on tap. Especially at high altitude airports. :D

    ALPA to GA: Screw you

Well, they already screwed over their profession by making it a two-tiered system that pays newcomers poverty-level wages. No surprise that they screwed over General Aviation as well.

    Best bang for buck EFB?

Honestly... fltplan is garbage, buggy, and slow. Avare is free because the author wants it to be. It is constantly being updated and improved.

    Best bang for buck EFB?

Android + Avare. Free sectionals, AFD, IFR enroute hi/lo, geo ref approach plates and taxi diagrams, weather, ads-b. All free. The end.

    Need Android tablet recommendation

I use the Nexus 7 (2013) with Avare for VFR flight and I have used it for IFR dual instruction. If I was buying now I would get the Nexus 9, I kinda wish I had a larger screen for approach plates.

    N40 vs. Scholler

Scholler is definitely a different vibe than the N40. I feel the N40 is more relaxed and you know everyone around you is a pilot. I'd be a little more careful about leaving out expensive electronics out charging and whatnot in Scholler. My Scholler camping strategy is to be as far away from...

1975 Cessna A150M...if money were no object.

Hah, funny you put it that way, because when I was taking my initial training, I was flying 28 year old 152's. :D

1975 Cessna A150M...if money were no object.

Wow, that's really nice. I like the paint job too--very tasteful and true to the era of the plane. I especially like the checkerboard on the wheel pants. All it needs is an Aspen PFD/MFD in there. ;)

    What headset do you use?

Lightspeed Zulu.2 for me. DC H10-13.4 and H10-30 for my three passengers. If I was buying now, I'd get the PFX. I carry two sets of rechargeable NiMH AA batteries for my headset. One in use and one spare. Never had a problem with running out of batteries. Someday I might trade in my...

What do you folks think about the Icon A5

Sadly, I'm not in the tax bracket to afford either, but I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Lisa Akoya yet. The wave piercing hydrofoil design actually lets you step taxi and the wings power fold/unfold. If I could afford either plane, it'd be the Akoya.
