Dry vs. wet hire in Florida

All the 172's I rent here in Naples are $170-ish wet, that's about on par with what I've heard from other in the Ft. Myers area.

    Night flight.. your thoughts?

Just want to thank everybody for the input, FWIW I've planned this trip in a couple of weeks, pretty much reaffirmed everything I'd belived up to this point, guess I just needed to hear it from some other folks. Talked to me CFI about it, he agreee's, should be a breeze for me especially since...

    Night flight.. your thoughts?

Prepping to take a nice flight to Orlando with the wife, but because of the time change it's inevitable that any 'after work' trip from Naples will occur well into the dark. Now of my 110+hrs, only maybe 6-8 are in true night, not that it's ever been a problem for me, but I was just wondering...

New "Flight" movie with Denzel Washington

The aircraft did not land inverted, it was righted just before touchdown. Now why the nose down pitch did not resume after righting the plane did not happen is what I'd like to know..

    Saratoga forced landing - Florida

Can't say about the Saratoga specifically, but the fuel pump is typically mechanicaly driven and the ignition is of course magneto driven so no, a loss of an alternator shouldn't force a landing. I actually experienced a dead alternator on my very first XC with my instructor, wasn't more than 15...

    Curious re:windy landing technique

X2. I'm final on Marco Isnald and watching the sock dance in a near 50-60* arc while ASOS is repeating the same wind direction for over 2 hours lol.. makes for a fun game of "guess the correction" on short final :D

Sitting Pretty (determining proper seat height)

I also set the seat height to where I can just see a small section of the cowling, give me a good measureing stick to gauge where the nose is, but that's just the way I was taught. I think somebody mentioned consisency, that's definently the key imo.

I Never Ask for Flight Following

Funny enough, Just this past Sunday, leaving EYW and about 15 mins out I hear a Navy aircraft call for.. *drumroll* VFR Flight Following, actually the controller said something along the lines of he wouldn't be able to provide FF due to radar coverage but the point was, even our esteemed armed...

What is the most weight you have ever hauled in a 172?

Typical load is me + wife + 16 year old + few lbs of misc. stuff. Keeps us a good 20-30lbs under gross with full tanks.

    Flight following

I was a little nervous at first too, but having used FF enough it's been nothing but a big help, especially flying into heavy traffic areas like MIA. At this point, unless i'm putting around my local field, I'm always on with FF, best way to fly imo!

Nah, although there are communities like that a little to the east, what you see there are just a creative series of manmade lakes
