    Dawdling pilot= go around

Maybe I should have chosen my words better. Was trying to say tower wouldn't have made the second or possible third radio call if he hadn't been slow; I've heard "Clear for takeoff no delays" many times.

    Gear section?

I'm surprised there is no gear section on the forum. Seems like a bit of an omission to me.

    IFR Certificate Training

I hear you on the bad habits/ thing. Going to different airports is part of becoming a good pilot in general. I'll have to make a point of using flight following, it kind of goes against my more independent nature but makes a lot of sense.

    landing flaps below 200 AGL?

I suppose you do. I was looking at it from the perspective of being able to hold the same speed during short final but when you get into ground effect having the barn doors would help. I'm going to let other folks with more experience debate this, I'm out of my league. The conversation...

I have to look over the XC requirements, I've done a few long XC flights.

    IFR Certificate Training

Hah! I hear you on the 206, it's nowhere near as slippery as a lot of the high perf aircraft are. I just found out money is going to be tight for a bit (more) so flying VFR is likely to be the game plan.

    landing flaps below 200 AGL?

Isn't it funny how leading questions add nothing to a conversation?

    landing flaps below 200 AGL?

My impression was we were talking about going from 1/2 flaps to full which would generally be 1-3 mph. You get most of your lift in the first half, after that it's mostly adding drag.

    landing flaps below 200 AGL?

I'd rather have everything done and ready when I'm at 200' AGL then I can focus on nailing the landing. I understand where you are coming from with regards to doing things the same every time but by the time you've hit 200' AGL at a different configuration you've already violated that. I guess...

    landing flaps below 200 AGL?

So much of this depends on the aircraft. In many (most?) light airplanes the difference between full flaps and half flaps is 1-3 miles per hour, not enough of a difference as far as I'm concerned to make a difference in wear and tear. If you do need to go around you are going to be able to...

    landing flaps below 200 AGL?

First, my disclaimer. I don't have an IR and I don't have a ton of hours making airplane sounds (127 FWIW). Personally I would avoid adding flaps and just land with 20% or even 10%. I don't like to make changes in the landing configuration that late in the flight and full flaps aren't really...

The idea of working on it a few times a week then hitting a finishing school has a lot of appeal.

    Dawdling pilot= go around

I had a lot of trouble with radio communications when I was new, tons of new terminology and people talking fast over I sometimes not-so-clear connection. The pilot has my sympathy on that regard. IMO the problem wasn't that he didn't understand but his reaction. If he wasn't certain what...

    IFR Certificate Training

You will eat, sleep, and breathe instrument flying for 10 days, and if you clutter your mind with, or spend your time on, anything else, it won't happen on schedule. Wow, thanks for that really detailed reply. It sounds like the 2 week cram course is not going to work for me, I can't really...

    Dawdling pilot= go around

Just reading the original post it seems like the only amendment the tower was making was to say "No Delay"... which they wouldn't do unless the pilot was taking too long to begin with. If the student pilot had complied with the original clearance there wouldn't have been a subsequent...

    IFR Certificate Training

A little background; I'm just getting back into flying after a long break. My most recent time in the cockpit was May of 2006. Currently I'm waiting on my medical appointment next Thursday and will be getting checkride/ bi-annual shortly after that for a local flying club. My total time is...

    Dawdling pilot= go around

Ron said it best. If he didn't understand the controller why did he cross the threshold? He had no business trying to get clarification in the middle of an active runway.

    Dawdling pilot= go around

If someone is having trouble understanding the controller, an active runway is the absolute last place you belong. I think talking to his instructor is a good idea, that's not just annoying, it's downright dangerous.

What do folks pay for ....

A local club is offering a 150 for $60 or $50 if you buy hours in blocks of 20. They do charge a monthly membership fee in the club which might cover the maintenance but it's only $20/ month and it seems to me than as long as you put in at least 2 hours per month even the $60 rate is a deal...
