    Sun n' Fun 2013

dibaf, I too was out flying, in the afternoon, and it turned out to be quite a challenge. I turned back and landed. It was the most difficult landing I've ever had to do.

    Landing Downwind

It's good to practice downwind landings from time to time. There may be times when you'll have to land downwind..for example, engine failure on takeoff at an altitude that permits you to turn back to the field. Other examples would be worsening wx, or any time you need to get on the ground ASAP.

Simulated engine out. Chopping the throttle at 50'

My instructor was always pulling surprises. Even at night he pulled the throttle and did other things such as a simulated complete electrcial failure. I am forever grateful to him.

    Checkride Horror Stories

My flight school has been using the same DPE for years, maybe decades. The instructors know what he focuses on and they prepare the students accordingly. The DPE is familiar with how the instructors teach. So it's a great arrangement for everyone involved. I did read a few horror stores on...

I'm glad I could help. I try to focus on answering questions.

Alcohol (no, not another DUI thread!)

I commend the OP for having the self-honesty to realize he has a problem, and to want to do something about it. He also recognizes it has become his way of 'dealing with stress and other issues". Here's a thought...quite often we are unable to remove a source of stress from life - perhaps it's...

Consequences for FAA Medical Exam with an underserved implied consent charge.

This is true. I've seen small animals such as cats and racoons get run over and get up and run off. I'm wondering if the OP's main obstacle to getting a medical is, not the "implied consent" matter but the head injury. I wonder how the FAA views that. The OP might want to find that out first.

    Gotta Love the FAA

If your info does reappear, try printing out a hard copy to bring with you just in case the AME is not able to pull it up that day.

Consequences for FAA Medical Exam with an underserved implied consent charge.

I think one factor that came into play at the time was the nature of the car accident. For example, if you hit the other person, or if you hit a pole or ran a light or something, that could make the police suspect an impaired driver. Whereas if you were driving along and someone else ran into...

    Hello to all

Welcome to PoA and to aviation. Flight training is fun, exciting, and challenging. There will be rough spots but you will work thru them. Whenever you feel discouraged or uncomfortable with something, be open with your instructor and tell him so he can help you with those particular areas. You...

i am a student pilot cited for a DUI and it was dismissed.

Looks like this thread really hits a nerve with "Rational Recovery".

So, when did you start hating to fly?

Not yet. I'll let you know. LOL Actually I went thru a phase, halfway between soloing and checkride, where it wasn't fun anymore. It became "work". Going to the practice area alone and doing steep turns, stalls, slow flight, etc....I wanted so badly to take passengers somewhere for a meal...
