    Home insurance sticker shock

I kind of... well, didn't move to a high fire risk or flood zone for a reason. And in the 30 years of home ownership, I do not regret never having secured home insurance. Why? All of my neighbors have had their policies dropped (unrenewable, period) this year. It seems like most insurers will...

Costco neighbor Don brought over filet mignon. I cut one piece in half width wise so the Other Person could have medium. Charcoal lights 4:00 PDT.

His advice is like scripture, e.g. "That water pan is generally just to act as a heat buffer between the coals and the meat. Any humidity it adds is a bonus, I guess. You'll find out that anything around the edges of the cooking grates will get done much faster than what's in the center because...

Deferring Marriage and a Family to fly professionally

There are certainly careers less conducive to family life than being an airline pilot. Being military often results in lengthy deployments and absences, yet families are more common than not. It sounds like you're looking for an excuse to do what you already know is the right thing, which is to...

    What's For Dinner?

Wow, that surprises me. I would have thought that the temperature would have stabilized after 2-4 hours for ribs but those ribs look really meaty. My first beef rib attempt (see the BBQ thread) ended in crispy critters after seven hours at 250 but on the other hand there as no meat to speak of...

What have I done? Crazy old woman musings

I appl Yes it does make it harder. I have played violin since age five, and played in a youth symphony for two seasons around age 13. I tried to learn guitar (pops plays Flamenco style guitar) and just couldn't grasp the chord thing. My brain thinks linear scales.
