    Wolf Pro 360

Just a little eye candy on what I was generously offered to fly this week. Prototype Wolf Pro 360. Not a Pitts. Baddest 4-cylinder acro bipe on the planet currently.

    Pitts memories

Sadly, I have let my Pitts go to a new home. Just some clips over the last few years.

    How slow can you roll?

For fun, I tried the 'super slow roll challenge' yesterday. Objective is to roll as slow as possible while maintaining a constant roll rate, heading, and altitude. Not perfect and not easy!

    Quadruple Avalanche

Finally got back up after being down for 3 weeks due to the east coast monsoons. It occurred to me I'd never tried to see how many snaps I could get on top of a loop. Got four. Not sure my Pitts will do five- we'll see. For anyone not familiar, 'avalanche' is what a loop with a snap on top is...

    World Acro Contest Video

From the WAC yesterday, going on in France. Some video of a few figures, and critiquing, along with good animation following the 'Aresti' notation for each figure. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x32rfoy_wac-2015-samedi-22-aout-2015_sport

    Going Vertical

Besides the Tom Cruise thread, been a little slow here. ;) A few clips of some fun messing around yesterday with some un-named vertical tumble-snap-rolling concoctions.

"One Design" Decathlon Acro Contest - Dallas, TX area

IAC 24 is sponsoring a very fun looking 'one design' contest where everyone flies this year's IAC Sportsman sequence in a Decathlon. Entry fee includes Decathlon rental. To further level the playing field performance-wise, everyone flies with a "safety pilot" regardless of experience. Looks like...

    Acro Sport I

Had the pleasure of flying a friend's 150 HP Acro Sport I this weekend. It was a hoot. Performance felt in between a Decathlon and my Pitts. Lot more Cub-like than the Pitts. Lower power off descent rate, slower approach speed, and less sensitive on the ground. Roll rate a good bit slower than...

    Great Day to Rip

Finally a break yesterday from the crap Wx and had to rip a little. Just some fun stuff.

    Younkin T-6 Airshow

Ran across this old footage of the late Bobby Younkin flying a T-6. Snaps, vertical roll, avalanche, hammers, rolling turn. Nice flying. Any T-6 drivers here? What's the standard fuel/oil setup, and what's different (if anything) on his airplane for negative G work? I've got an hour of acro...

    Runway Sideslip Drill?

I know - groan. ;) But I have a dead serious, non-loaded question for those of you with slicker marbles than me. Not trying to continue that density altitude slip thread. Too many tangents, and nothing accomplished. This question is honestly something I've never thought about in my years of...

Unlimited Video - '14 IAC Nationals

Just wanted to share a video of a type of flying that is rarely seen on YouTube. Unless you're a hardcore acro nut, everyone else seems more interested in the "airshow" style of flying, and few bother to take decent video of the regular competition program. This video is of Goody Thomas...

    Monoplane Corruption

On Saturday my friend goaded me into taking his Giles 202 up. He knew I'd never flown an "unlimited" monoplane (not RVs and Decathlons) before and was trying to turn me. :) I made a quick 15 minute flight, spent a few minutes trying to get a feel for it, then tried the '15 IAC Advanced sequence...

    Double Hammerhead

Finally figured out how to get the last 180 degrees of pivot on the double hammer to stay on a (very near) vertical plane rather than rolling left near wings level on the way back up and looking like a spin from the 270 degree point. Still not perfect, but not sure my airplane (or I) can do it...

    2015 IAC Known Sequences

I grabbed some video of the finalized Sportsman, Intermediate, and Advanced Known sequences for next year. For those unfamiliar, the Known sequences are sequences published by IAC each year, and are flown for the 1st flight at contests. The Primary category sequence for 2015 is still being...

    Just 3 Figures

I made up a legal 3-figure Sportsman Freestyle sequence just for laughs. Ran through it yesterday in the awesome clear air we had. Incase anyone is curious, Fig. 1 (after inverted wing wags) is a 1-1/2 inverted spin followed by a 1-1/2 snap roll opposite direction. Fig. 2 is a push Humpty with a...

    Cockpit View 2

A few folks here and there have expressed interest in a stick and rudder view to show various inputs. I fixed-mounted one of the cameras in a new spot and shot some clips last night of various maneuvers and fun stuff. I've picked up little things to improve from watching this too. HD enabled.

    2-View Acro Flight

Practicing my modified Free sequence goofing around with 2-cameras on the plane. Good for critiquing vertical rolls. I don't practice this sequence enough - left out a figure near the end. :) HD enabled.

    Sunday Short

Just having a little fun in the cool air today. No competition stuff, just funnin' around. HD enabled.
