    Rechargeable hearing aids

I've been wearing hearing aids for over twenty years. I recently purchased rechargeable ReSound BTE aids at Costco. The Costco hearing test was the most comprehensive hearing exam I have EVER had, and that includes exams from ENT MD's. The programs/volume in these can be changed/modified with...

Who here plays a musical instrument?

Played lap steel as a boy. Washed cars and mowed lawns to buy my first guitar. Played in a rock & country band in high school. Continued to play guitar, then discovered the 5-string banjo. That became my primary instrument, playing Scruggs-style. Played in a bluegrass band for a number of...

When does it become "Mountain Flying"?

I have flown in the area of your proposed route and consider the route prudent. My limited experience in that particular area showed me that the winds, especially the afternoon winds from the west blowing over the ridge just east of Albuquerque can give you a bit of "texture" to the atmosphere...

    Out of state police officer?

Before I retired, I sometimes transported extradited prisoners back from other states. I also attended training in other states. Back in the day, this was often done in a marked patrol car.

I used the Mayo course and was happy with it.

    Anything new in headsets?

I have the very early version of the A-20 and have used them for years. Batteries last a long time, noise reduction is great and they are very comfortable. HOWEVER, I find voice clarity not to my liking. The Bose seems to make the voices seem much "bass-ier" than other headsets. To me...

Mayo Clinic Basic Med On-line Course--PIREP

I just completed my Basic Med medical exam with my regular doctor and then completed the Mayo Clinic Basic Med online health course. The online course took about 90 minutes to complete and was divided into six topics. Simple. The Mayo Clinic course serves the purpose. It was interesting to...

    "Best" IFR View Limiting Device

This may be heresy to some, but...except for a flight test, I've found the easiest, least intrusive and quite effective is just a long-billed ball cap and focus on the panel.

    Foreflight vs Garmin Aera 560

I use both, Aera 560 and Foreflight. Aera can run on ship's power, iPad...not so much. Aera is quick and easy, especially finding "nearest" ARTCC, FSS, airports with wx, VOR, NDB (yes, I still use/like ADF), etc. and it won't overheat. Foreflight/iPad is great for navigating and seeing wx...

FAA Issues General Aviation Medical Rule

This link is to the Advisory Circular explaining the Basic Med regs, includes the medical exam form, Q&A's and a “feedback” form. It's pretty informative and helpful in understanding the new regs. https://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/Advisory_Circular/AC_68-1.pdf

Spoke with the FBO at Williams Gateway Airport in Mesa, AZ today. I learned they are now charging a $30 ramp fee for aircraft weighing LESS than 5,000 lbs. They will waive the ramp fee if you purchase 20 gallons of fuel. ($4.94/gal) This info has not been put on their website as of today...

    To be deposed or not..

If they want to interview you, they don't have a court reporter to type a transcript of everything that is said. Instead, lawyers break out tape recorders. You should record it, too. You can have your lawyer present with you. If they want to depose you, it is more formal, a court reporter...

Mounting iPad in Cockpit - Piper Arrow

I have a full-size iPad, mounted on a Ram yoke mount with suction cup. I place the iPad in landscape position and have had no problems seeing what I want to see on the panel in my Arrow. Yes, I sometimes have to peek around the iPad, but it isn't difficult.

$100 burrito in Nogales KOLS w/video

A nice flight to Nogales! ...and a nice landing there, too! Yes, the mountains give the impression you are too low--that, and the sloping runway catches a lot of pilots new to Nogales. I fly in there often and your approach to the airport is exactly how I do it. It was also nice to see you...

    Stupid Pilot Tricks

    Here's one that generally works pretty well: True airspeed = indicated airspeed + (2 X altitude). Example: 130 Kts indicated + (5,500 ft. X 2) = 141 Kts. TAS (5,500 being 5.5)

AVG - Anyone Using It - Does It Work?

I use the free version of AVG and it works well. (Used Norton for years and had all sorts of trouble...and it didn't seem as effective as AVG.) AVG has stopped cyber attacks and captured spyware. Since it's free, it's a bargain at twice the price! ;^)
