Changes Since Your Initial Training (Get Off My Lawn edition)

    1. Definitely or the former WWII instructor would show me why with an unannounced power cut. Only took once. 2. Carb heat on about mid field, power to idle abeam the numbers, land on the numbers and we were allowed one "clearing the engine" throttle up, but it had better be brief . . . very...

xplane vs MSFS for IFR procedures

X-Plane on Linux (AMD Ryzen 5-2600, 16GB ram and an older Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 at 1080p); Avare on a $90 Walmart 10 inch ONN tablet (which also works with the Stratux ADSB-in). My point is that one doesn't need a really high end computer unless one wants to add on scenery and complex third...

Does a hobbs/tach need to be viewable from inside of the cabin?

The Cessna 195 puts one of those gasoline combusting cabin heaters under the rear seat. I have vowed that if we ever get that project flying, I will never, ever, turn it on. Nope.

    ASOS out in the fields

Why are there 6 ASOS near the intersection of the Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska borders? They show up on SkyVector.com. The ASOS identities are K1AW, K1BW, K1DW, K1FW, K1OW, K1LW. They don't appear to be associated with airports.

    Luscombe Road Trip—Wish me luck!

Jay, Thanks for taking us along. I found myself "needing" to check on your progress every day. What a great testament to the idea that one doesn't need a complex airplane to make a wonderful, memorable and adventuresome trip. Good job.

    Potato Guns

Potato gun, hairspray, at night, a little steel wool behind the potato for a tracer. (But only into a non-flammable range under proper adult supervision, a permit from the fire department, no alcohol and offsetting donations to the local food bank.) Could be fun.

    My new plane! Yeehaw!

Congratulations! My first airplane was a Luscombe 8E too and I still have and fly it 46 years later. Great little airplane. Cessna liked them so much they bought two of them. Enjoy!
