Boeing cargo plane makes emergency 'belly' landing

I didn’t know that FedEx planes land in daylight. As for the landing itself, that seemed so benign.

    Nav-o-matic 300 autopilot

You just came around too late. Around 1960 lots of products and companies then were named something-o-matic. Some still exist. The Bunn-o-matic Corporation, founded in 1959, still sells the coffee makers that you commonly see behind the counter in lots of diners.

    CHT’s and EGT’s skyrocketing randomly

Do you have engine-monitor data, in graphical form? If so, look at the CHT for rapid fluctuations, like 100 degrres in just a few seconds. Such a rapid change is physically impossible, for heating and cooling a metal cylinder, so that would indicate loose or dirty connectors, which is common.

Route suggestions for CA to NC helicopter XC

Which is better at high density altitude, R22 or a C-172 powered by the same O-360?

    Blue Angels IMAX

Looking forward to seeing it. Especially the movies recorded from inside the cockpit, with other planes seemingly close enough to reach out and touch them.

How many rotors on that drone in the OP? Is it 12 horizontal ones for lift, plussome forward-facing props for propulsion?

    RSV vaccine

Package insert for the vaccine, with data for efficacy etc: https://labeling.pfizer.com/ShowLabeling.aspx?id=19589 I got the vax (because I’m over 60, not because I’m pregnant, which is the other reason to get it), no side effect for me. It’s nice to have one less reason I could get pneumonia.

    Aviation License Plates

Suppose your tail number was N123E, and you chose 123ECHO as your car’s plate. I did that with mine, and I’ve found that it’s obscure enough that very few people can guess the meaning of my plate. So it makes me happy without losing any real privacy.

FIKI cert Mooney adequate for regular winter trips to Newfoundland and Labrador from New England?

Not what you asked, but a turbo FIKI SR22 might do the job. The chute gives you another “out” in the worst-case icing scenario.

    Alaska Airlines explosive decompression 1/5/23

I’m getting the impression that the Boeing factory is run more sloppily than the worst GA shop I’ve used. When a mechanic left bolts off stuff in my humble piston plane, at least I had documentation- a logbook entry to show that something had been installed, and it was signed and dated. Boeing’s...

    Putting CamGuard to the Test

Another way is a cohort study. And I can do something that's close to that, using Blackstone oil-analysis data. Blackstone provides a column called "Universal averages," which is for the entire fleet using a particular engine. I show Blackstone fleet data for the Continental IO-550-N27, which...

    Spirit Airlines in trouble

WSJ article a few days ago says that all airlines are now low-cost airlines, meaning that the biggest airlines have adopted the ways of the cheap upstarts, and that crowds out the likes if Spirit.

    Foreflight “CallSigns”

I wish I could also see the aircraft type, when I see traffic on Foreflight. It would help to know whether I’m looking for a Cirrus or a King Air. FF shows the traffic’s groundspeed, but near an airport that doesn’t vary so much.

    New case against flight tracking

An entity might not always help. A quick corporation search at a state’s secretary of state website will likely turn up the name and address of the entity’s owner, unless it’s a Delaware corp. Try it for example with a business like your favorite small local FBO.

    Boeing’s on a streak...

I’ve flown on a Tupolev to Siberia. I’m pretty sure that if the 95% tried it as well, they would suddenly take an interest in paying more for a ride on an Airbus or Boeing.
