    Garmin Panel Question

OMG, duh! How did I not notice the power controls in the 750 photo. That makes SO much more sense. :) Thanks!

Swimming pool? Considering one in backyard

We are about 2 weeks away from closing on selling our house - we put a pool in about 10 years ago. We will not be putting in a pool at the new house. I really wanted the convenience of a pool at home - no driving home in wet swimsuits, packing bags to go to the pool, etc. So we went for it...

    Garmin Panel Question

Quick question for anyone familiar with Garmin equipment. I'm drooling over stuff on TAP and I came across this: https://www.trade-a-plane.com/search?category_level1=Single+Engine+Piston&make=MOONEY&model=M20K+231&listing_id=2180154&s-type=aircraft I'm not really up to date on what Garmin has...

    2015 Wings of Hope Raffle

Dang it, I missed buying tickets this time... do they only run this raffle once a year?

    Masters Degree

Here's the funny thing... UOP and other similar for-profit universities have astronomical drop out rates, partly because they have low admissions standards, but partly because it really is a lot of work to get through a degree problem there. I think people sign up because they believe it will...

Washington DC (Northern VA) Aircraft Rental/Instruction

I used a very good independent instructor at CJR who is also very reasonable, cost wise. He has his own plane (older 172 but very clean and GPS equipped) and instructs with it. He's a retired guy with ATP who teaches private and IFR. He's even rotor and rotor CFI certified and has a R22 that...

    Corvette owners

I had mine for about a year and a half. Loved it and drove it about 100 miles (round trip) to work whenever it wasn't raining, snowing, or stupidly cold. It was a 'vert, so it didn't make much sense to drive it if it was too cold to put the top down. I never had any trouble driving it in the...

Just came back from the intro flight....Disappointing results.

I hope you bought a logbook... that time is loggable as dual-instruction! You might as well get something for your money!

    Oh the Irony...

Well, I think I found the secret to flying on a budget. It's called "write a book on budgeting, and charge $22 for it. That way other people pay for my flying." Nice! Sorry, not much to say, but I saw this and laughed out loud. You all will probably find it slightly more interesting than...

    Busting Obama's Airspace Today

In the DC suburbs, we are very familiar with the "rolling roadblock". They start shutting down on-ramps along the whole route as soon as the motorcade leaves the White House. There is an active sweep about 5 miles in front of the motorcade, and people are let back on to the highway when the...

FCC might allow cell phones on airline flights: good or bad?

Anyone remember Airphone service from Verizon? 10 years or so ago, there was a phone in every seat group. Of course the cost to use it was so high that nobody did, but they were there. I have no doubt that the price to use your own phone through this system will also be high enough that usage...

Caution..."Caution Wake Turbulence"...can give you a serious headache!

Come to DC and chill out at Gravelly Point park. It's a couple hundred feet away from DCA 1/19, right in line with the runway. If they are landing on 19 you can hear the wake turbulence every 90 seconds when a plane passes about 50 feet directly above you.

    A challenging approach...

@ 2:45... "OK, stop turning now, stop turning.... STOP turning!" @ 2:50... "OK TURN FASTER, TURN, TURN, TURN!!!" Wow.

    Gonna get an iPad

FWIW, here is what I learned about iPad data plans after doing extensive research. Both Verizon and AT&T offer two methods of iPad data: pay-as-you-go and contract. Contract iPad plans work just like cell phone contracts. You sign a x-month (usually 24 month) contract for data on your...

    Strange call from tower...

Was doing a couple landings at a nearby D that has service from United Express. We were on final and the tower held a CRJ at the line, for us (172) on final. My CFI is kinda the grumbly old fart, for whom no maneuver is ever "perfect". We landed and were turning back on the taxiway and my...

Did you come from an aviation family or are you a 1st generation pilot/enthusiast?

Second generation here. My Dad flew Super Connies for the USAF during the latter half of Vietnam. He got out and worked for the FAA, but never got his PPL. he was in the airports side, so he never sat in the left chair again, but he instilled a love of all things aviation in me. It took until my...

    Two Factor Authentication

I only use Google Authenticator for my google account itself, but I know that, at least in that circumstance, Google will let you create "offline" OTPs that you can print on a little wallet card for use in case of an emergency. I have no idea how to do it when you're using GA for a 3rd party...

United Airline Pilots Dies In Flight

I don't know if the medical kit is 100% standardized across all types and routes, but the one time I've seen the insides of one (3 or so years ago) there was an AED in there. This was on a United 777 on a trans-Atlantic route.

    Post a Picture?

You have to have more posts before you can post pictures. I forget the exact number, but it's not much. Post in the introductions thread or chime in on a couple other threads and you should get there pretty quick.
