    KBDU Direct KADS

I'm attending a conference in Dallas the first week of June, so I'm planning to fly myself down from CO. It was recommended I make a post here for tips & tricks and possible meetups. Obivously WX will play a big role in the fine details and actual dates, but my plan is to fly from KBDU to KADS...

G35 Bonanza V-Tail Denver Area LLC Forming

Interesting BM, I might have some interested if you would consider hangaring the plane at BJC. If so, then I have a bunch of questions.

    Class B Airspace

Guess it's good to be as perfect as you.

    Class B Airspace

I would disagree that this question was that simple, at least when looking on the sectional. It is much easier to see the boundaries on the TAC. On the sectional, the little Class B boundary nearly overlays some other boundary and I find it very difficult to see (at least on sky vector, maybe...

    slaved ap to gps

The Birttan autopilot in my Mooney is slaved to the CDI's only. I have a switch on CDI #2 to slave it to either the NAV/COM or the GPS. So as far as the autopilot is concerned, it's just stearing to the CDI. But as mentioned in the thread, if the autopilot isn't slaved directly to the GPS...

    ..Tell me about Mooney

Looks like this thread has all the info possible ... here's the website to my Mooney, which is the Mooney Ted flew, as mentioned in the thread: www.clubmooney.com. This is a 1974 M20F, and I have about 50 hours in a C. I'd take the F over a C anytime. Yes, it's nice to have the johnson bar...

    slaved ap to gps

I'd agree it's feasible to design it, but as you alluded, testing it for the FAA is the expensive part ... and all the paper work. Working for Lycoming for 10 years in the Configuration Management department, I've seen the crazy certification process for hardware and software. And it's more...

    slaved ap to gps

That 1930's DG went through a rigorous certification process (in theory ;-), as did the autopilot and the interface between the two. The 496, and associated software, did not go through that certification, nor can it under the current rules (as far as I know). Additionally, the interface...

    Name that plane...

When burning twice the fuel just isn't enough! Very cool nonetheless.

    Stupid filing question

Correct me if I'm wrong (as I'm sure many will), if you decide you do need to go to an alternate, you can always go somewhere else, even if it has nothing but a pure GPS approach ... pending clearance from ATC of course. Your filed "alternate" is really just a backup in case you lose comm and...

    TSA strikes again

One more reason not to fly commercial ... until THEY start doing this same sort of thing on GA aircraft.

And remember that written is good for two years.

    IFR Training?

I can’t add any additional advice to the above posts, this is just an account my flying “career”. Got my PPL just for the fun of it 11 years ago in PA. After 9 years of VFR-only flight logging about 400 hrs, I decided to get my IR. It was a hard decision, as you can see. The biggest...

You may be a Pilot if....

Not so funny, but here are some I did back during instrument training: You start scanning your instrument cluster of your car when you drive into fog. When you are cutting the grass with your tractor, you use a "Procedure Turn" to turn around. (This is actually good practice)

    First time flying to Oshkosh?

For anyone interested, here's a video, with audio, of my FISK approach into Oshkosh last year, flying an Archer II. I thought it might be useful to anyone who might be flying there for the first time this year. Watch it after you read the NOTAM. This, by the way, was my first time going to...

Color (non-inkjet) Printers - Xerox, or Others?

I never heard of solid ink printers, so I checked wiki. Pretty cool technology, but it seems the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. Of course, wiki data isn't always accurate. This is what concerned me most: "A page printed on the highest quality print setting can have the ink scraped off...

Predator UAV makes first landing at Civilian Airport (KOSH)

On the Military Channel over the weekend, was watching something like Greatest Military Fighters. Obviously a great show, but at the end, they got into some of the future aircraft. They stated the next "X" flighter they develop for testing will be unmanned. They closed by stating "the last jet...

    Colorado to OSH fuel stop

Now that sounds intriguing. I'd expect to be passing through there around 1ish.

    Colorado to OSH fuel stop

I was looking for unadvertised specials (like OSH specific fuel stops) and/or nicer places that others might know about. For instance, when we flew from IPT to OSH, we happened to stop at a place that not only had discounts for OSH but they also had snack tent setup with hotdogs and other...
