"Speed enforced by aircraft" budget cuts

I think we have a 172 left (the oldest). The others are 182's, 210's and 206's... Not all the planes have FLIR.. I know a western Iowa troop has one on his plane and there might be one more flying around... I will admit, for how broke we are we do have some nice aircraft.

What do you do for a living?

State Trooper... With the real potential to be a Trooper/Pilot in a few years. I figured if they'll pay for my instrument ticket and give me a 182 to fly for free why not?

    Aviation Bucket List

I've come to the hard realization that I'll never have the opportunity to achieve a rating to pilot a spacecraft.... So I guess "passenger-ing" it is.... Although I couldn't afford that either!

    Renter's Insurance

I'm looking at getting back into flying after not flying last year after I got my PPL. The FBO I have been talking to says that the only insurance they require is one that covers their deductible of 5,000 dollars. That doesn't seem like that would protect me very well if something would happen...

    Die Hard 2

I'm a state trooper and according to www.odmp.org there have been 112 officers killed so far this year, 46 by gunfire which is an increase of 18% from last year. My department has had two trooper involved shootings that I can think of so far this year. The first was killed by a trooper after the...

    What's too Much Weight?

So how would an airliner compute weight and balance with regards to the weight of the passengers. I've never been asked for my weight when boarding, or do they have a random number say a 275 pound average and hope that the average weight of the passengers is less than that:crazy:.

    What's too Much Weight?

Thanks for all the great posts. I'm planning a flight with some friends in a couple weeks thats about 140nm away. While doing the W&B we were about 25 pounds over weight and it got me wondering what would happen if you took off that heavy, i.e. wings fall off or never leave the ground, etc...

    What's too Much Weight?

There was a thread on hear earlier talking about a student pilot and his large friends trying to takeoff in an Archer and haveing a little issue due to weight so that got me thinking....... How much is to much weight to take off. I learned to fly less than a year ago and have around 55 hours...

    What's worng with this picture?

The first time I took friends up after getting my cert. it was in a Piper Archer. The four of us ranged from 165 to 180 pounds. We would have been 60 pounds or so (can't really remember) over max gross weight with full fuel...

John & Martha held by police at gun point

The oldest person to kill a police officer was 96, the youngest was 6. I doubt either of them looked like the "typical" cop killer? I think Alan explained very well why things are done the way they are.
