Anyone have one of those Pebble watches?

I've had a Pebble since shortly after their launch on Kickstarter. I love it. Functionality is good, battery life is great (4-5 days on average), and it's proven to be pretty rugged. I'd love to try out your METAR watch face. I'm a Pebble developer so I 'know what to do.' Mike

    AmEx Card Extended Warranty

I've used it. Was painless and fast. One thing I did notice, though. It excludes aviation related items.

    Sporty's G1000 Course?

My major complaint with all of the 'consumer' simulators for the G1000 is that while they pretty much look and behave like the G1000, they don't feel like it. They don't have the knobs and buttons. When I was learning, I often found myself fumbling to remember which soft-key push or which...

    Sporty's G1000 Course?

The Sporty's G1000 course is excellent, and I believe it comes with a copy (or download) of the Garmin Trainer. The King course is so, so. The Jeppesen course is excellent also, but it's is more of a static (animations of the screen with voice prompts) CBT. Lastly, there is an...

    FLIR for the Common Man

A Bearhawk builder put FLIR on his plane. He bought the camera directly from FLIR ($2500), laid up his own fiberglass housing, and used a common off-the-shelf automotive LCD. http://www.mykitlog.com/users/display_log.php?user=jonesronc&project=191&category=1717&log=98243&row=19...

    Experimentals and ATC

I was once in the pattern at Victorville with "Boeing Experimental Heavy 002". (787, SN 002) I also overheard an exchange between "JetBlue Experimental 001" and ATC. They were testing a new avionics suite. (A320)

Twin nose gear fail landing at Van Nuys

On my way back from Oshkosh I stopped at Denver Centennial (KAPA) and there was a DA-42 in the pattern with gear problems. Shortly after I landed they bellied it. I can't begin to comprehend how much the composite work and two engine and gearbox teardowns will cost. I'm guessing the plane is...

    Angle of Attack indicator

I put one in my T206H a few months ago and am learning all sorts of new stuff about my airplane. For example: The stall speeds are exactly what the book says. Big surprise! The only downside to the less expensive (and only ones available) for light GA is that they only calibrate for a...

New preflight video found on facebook! Gotta watch it!

I just hand my passengers these passenger briefing cards that came with the airplane. The flight will be over before they can figure it out.

Not a fan of Kitplanes magazine

A friend of mine who worked in the magazine biz for a long time recently explained this to me. There are a couple of things at play here. First, their advertisement rates are based on 'paid circulation'. Paid circulation = printed magazines sold individually or mailed to subscribers. As...

    Northrop F-5 and Douglas A-4

Give the airport manager at Mojave Airport a call. He's ex-Navy, F-14's, etc, so probably has A-4 time as well. After the Navy he was a test pilot for Northrop Grumman and I'm pretty sure that included quite a bit of F-5 time. His info: Stu Witt (661) 824 2433 info@mojaveairport.com

    Best courtesy car ever

L00 Kernville discourteous car: They actually charge you $30/day + 60c/mile. No AC, driver size window doesn't roll down, and every possible indicator light on the dash is on all the time.

    Another I-PAD question - VS G1000

I have both G1000 charting options as well as an iPad. Other than training, I've never used FlightCharts or ChartView to fly an actual approach. I either use the paper plates or my iPad (ForeFlight or JeppView). I have used it to review various approaches/STARs/SIDs while enroute. I do...

    Foreflight Flight Plan Info

Has happened to me once...I departed SZP (Santa Paula) VFR one afternoon and picked up my IFR clearance from Point Magu Approach in the air. The controller gave me my clearance, I read it back, and then she responded "Read back correct, contact SoCal on 124.6, and have a nice day Mr. Bundy."

    Will the flight exist?

Stirring the pot... OK, so I'll start by agreeing that BA anything is 1000x better than AA anything... I've flown LAX<->LHR at least 50x if not 100x one way or round trip I dunno. Eventually one stops counting... Air New Zealand is awesome. Sometimes they are cheaper than BA. Virgin...
