    Bye-bye domestic flight plan form...

    What's a flight plan?

What's your favorite VFR cruising altitude, and why?

Just buzzing around or a short hop for a burger, I like 2500ft (1600 AGL here). If I'm going somewhere more than an hour or so, 4500-9500 depending on conditions. My very light airplane gets kicked around pretty easily, so my choice of altitude when traveling is usually driven by the search...

No more Grand Canyon VFR Chart?

the latest version of the chart is from 2001?!? I guess I didn't notice that when I flew over it, but I used Garmin Pilot on an iPad and a 496.

    VR, Flight Simulators and...nausea?

Yeah, I've been flying various sims for 20+ years, they never bothered me, but as stated I did get a little fluttery twice in airplanes as a passenger.

FAA enforcement action, never called me back?

He probably determined that there was no action required, and just didn't bother calling you back. After "a few years" I'd forget it unless you hear something from the FAA. Most important question: did you pass the checkride? :) If you did, the DPE didn't see a problem and the FAA...

    VR, Flight Simulators and...nausea?

I never get sick flying, but if I'm a passenger in a small plane somebody else is flying, I have a couple of times gotten nauseated. I think it's because when I'm flying my body is connected to the movements of the airplane through the controls -- when I'm a passenger, all the little movements...

Buy a Plane, Crash a Plane

I read USAToday, I know that's what always happens.

    Lawsuit after student solo crash

PIC means safety of the flight was the pilot's responsibility, Unless we have some reason to believe he was grossly mistrained, the responsibility was the pilot's. Sorry for his family, but that is the way the FAA sees it, any other interpretation turns the concept of PIC on its head and...

    Augmented Reality for GA

That video is several years old. I think it's a cool concept, but currently pure vapor.

    Pilots breaking VFR minimums

As for MOAs, you don't have to be Captain Dingbat McClueless about it. If you are on Flight Following you can ask if the MOA is hot. If it is, you can ask for more information like what altitudes they are using. A lot of time you can get plenty of info to make an informed decision about...

    Pilots breaking VFR minimums

As a practical matter, what is ATC supposed to do? You say "hey this guy is IMC!" and the other pilot comes back with "nope, I have VFR cloud clearances in all directions." Who is ATC supposed to believe? He said/she said, unfortunately.

AME contacted the FAA to "warn" them about me!

Nobody said anything about a lawsuit. The OP asked who in the FAA he could file a complaint against the AME with. It's not silly to ask AMEs to act reasonably with their clients.

    Compression ratios

My Rotax 912ULS has 10.5:1 compression and requires 91 octane or better. It has no variable timing or knock sensors.

AME contacted the FAA to "warn" them about me!

AMEs provide a service for which pilots pay good money. I don't think complaining about terrible service and a doctor not acting in good faith, and letting other consumers know about it, is "letting him win." The OP went through additional time and expense because of this clown, why should he...

    Caution!! Pilots are drunks

The implication from the headline is that *many* pilots are flying drunk. You have to read down into the the article to see only 0.2% of pilots have been busted for flying while drinking. But I guess the headline of "99.8% of pilots don't violate drinking rules" doesn't catch the eye quite as...

Wow! My wife has the flying bug.

"Stick and Rudder" is a bit dry for a newbie...give her the FAA "Airplane Flying Handbook". It's got great explanations of tons of stuff and good illustrations too. You want to get her excited, not bore her with theory! ;)

    Gliding Distance

The shape of the airframe doesn't change, which is what is setting the glide distance. Glide *speed* is a function of weight to lift. So if two airplanes are the same size and shape and one weighs twice as much: 1) the lighter airplane will come in at a relatively slow, gentle speed on a...
