Looks Ugly ... Pilot Has Minor Injuries

Ron, what are the options for landing straight ahead (as preached) in the event of an engine failure at take off, at this airport?

Engineer Ted's How to Make Your Engine Last (while running)

Newby at this, so tell me your truth :) Enriching the mixture cools your engine they say. Due to "the evaporation of the excess fuel". But, I can also cool the engine by reducing the AOA or by reducing the power setting. Less power, less pressure and less heat. So can it be that the...

Fighter Pilot looking for advice on the GA world

Tools said: Go to the airport of your choice and start networking. That’ll help ya with hangar, maintenance and local flying bud stuff. Check to see if there’s a local EAA chapter or similar to aid in that. With this in mind. Fractional ownership in a RV-10? Probably 3 owners for your budget...

    Premature Solo?

I find landing straight in from a 5 mile final way more challenging than setting up for a landing from down wind. I realize the controller sent her miles out, to maybe collect her thoughts, but I wonder if directing her back into the circuit for a precautionary landing or a low and over, could...

    Killing engine in flight

Value of killing the engine in flight? Glide distance and descent rate with power at idle (simulated engine failure or power off landing practise), versus dead engine and wind milling prop. Kept her high on base to final and aimed to touch down at the 1200 feet mark. (Roughly the start of the...

Stall base to final.. question on the pattern

I rather watch the ball and feel the load factor, than trusting IAS to prevent a stall. https://aviation.stackexchange.com/questions/1676/accelerated-stall-what-is-it-how-do-you-prevent-it#:~:text=Short%20Version,load%20factor%20(g%20loading).

    At altitude, which throttle setting?

If you climb high enough, full throttle will be cruise power, so you for fixed pitch, leave the throttle forward and lean. For constant speed prop, leave the throttle forward, adjust RPM to desired cruise RPM and then lean. This !

Cleanest way to open oil filter

That tool cuts male (with nipple) filters just fine. The pin/bolt seats nicely in the nipple and the cutting wheel does its thing just above the bottom seam of the filter. Done so for the last 15 years

    Not leaning enough?

Dan thanks, I stand corrected on multiple fronts. Seems the UREM is a Tempest plug and REM is a Champion plug. And there is no 40 plug in the projected nose. You got me thinking about the melting point of metal lead, so had to do some reading. Sounds like the combustion process liberates lead...

    Not leaning enough?

Lycoming recommended shutdown procedure to "clean out unburnt fuel". To prevent fouling after shutdown? Some advocate, to get rid of the lead, run engine up to 2000ROM, lean aggressively for a minute or two and then shut down. Lead's melting point is 621dF, so once formed on the plugs, it's not...
