Hi, great questions I'd like to buy something as budget friendly as possible. 40K seems like a good budget for now. My plan is to fly single pilot to build tailwheel hours and experience. I DO NOT want to teach in it. I don't know that I would own this long term. I could see owning for...

Thanks, I own it and read it cover to cover. It's actually part of my intended student curriculum. It's part of the reason that I'm looking for the hours. I am also going to get some paid instruction / mentoring from an established tailwheel instructor :)

Hi All, I'm a CFI with a tailwheel endorsement but not the hours I need to be able to start flying tailwheel students or flying larger tailwheel aircraft. I don't have ready access to a tailwheel (no rentals, clubs etc..) so I'm considering purchasing something flying it for a year or two and...

providing "no-cost" flight training and the need for a 100 hour. 91-409(b)

Spoke with the AOPA panel attorney and there are some legal interpretations from the FAA on this. The three part test is 1. Did I provide the airplane 2. Did flight instruction occur 3. Was there compensation -- the "for hire" bit. Apparently the FAA takes an overly broad, (to the point of...

providing "no-cost" flight training and the need for a 100 hour. 91-409(b)

I saw a post from 2012 about this topic and rather than reopen that one, I'm starting a new one. I have a scheduled call with an AOPA panel attorney to discuss this later in the week but I thought I might start here to see if anyone knows of an interpretation letter, has done this themselves or...

Randolph wing walk gets soft and “melts”

Yep the paint was mixed IAW the mfg directions including a medium reducer. The paint shop gave me the directions on application and timing for hardening. The “time for a second coat” was 16hrs which I went longer on. The white paint I shot appears intact underneath the wing walk compound...

Randolph wing walk gets soft and “melts”

Thanks, It was primed with zinc chromate from the mfg. sounds like I may need to be prepared to remove the wing walk that is unbonded, clean it up and reapply. I’m new to coatings and thought I understood the dynamics. Clearly I didn’t know what I didn’t know but I won’t make the same...

Randolph wing walk gets soft and “melts”

Shot acrylic enamel paint on recently replaced aft wing walk panel on a PA28. let the paint cure a day and then coated with Randolph wing walk. Let it sit 2 days. It held up fine and I’ve flown several times without issue. The coating seemed like it was working well. yesterday I flew cross...

    PA-28 + dual G5s heading issue

I’m sort of the same way, it’s always one of the other and never both and the ground track never changes so it’s not like I don’t know where I’m going. when I’ve been in HDG mode on the AP it’s never moved. So I agree just a nuisance. I was just curious because it is annoying and I’m just...

    PA-28 + dual G5s heading issue

I know I’m bumping an old post but I’ve got a PA28-180 with dual G5, GNX375 and GFC500. I notice the yellow box during commercial maneuvers or at low altitude. It occurs randomly on the ADI or HSI. I have the GMU-11 on the right wingtip and have restrung the nav light with a shielded...

    Partial Panel in TAA aircraft

For my instrument checkride in a PA28-180 with dual G5 the DPE shut off the PFD with the power button and the HSI reverted to PFD and I flew the approach that way. It was a VOR and I have a CDI separate of the G5 so it wasn’t really that big of a deal.

    UBG-16 / MUX-8A data rates

I think I’ve made a mistake. I was looking for an inexpensive engine monitor for my certified aircraft and was recommended a UBG-16. Older tech but reliable. When I purchased it I saw that the sample rate was 1/sec which is not as fast as some of the more modern (1/0.3 sec) but effective...

    Duplex thermocouple for oil temp

Working on an upgrade plan to add a UBG-16 to my Cherokee. I would like to add oil temp to the data logger but either need to find another port (existing port adjacent to oil filter is in use for the OEM oil temp) to put the UBG-16 probe or I guess find a duplex oil temp probe with two...
