Does approach shot from right seat count for currency?

Thanks everybody! I will definitely log any approaches that I shoot... from either seat. Took a flight today and shot five approaches... that with the one I shot last week has me current for another six months. Proficient is another story...

Does approach shot from right seat count for currency?

Next week my cousin is taking me for a joyride in a Piper Cherokee. He just finished his PPL (no IR for him yet), and I'm going along mostly for fun but also as his safety pilot. He'll be PIC, I'll sit right seat. I have my IRA. He'll do most of the flying, but if I shoot an approach or two...

    Flying GA in Hawaii

Realize this is an old thread, but just found it today. I flew clockwise around Oahu yesterday in a 172. Took a little over an hour... 1.5 on the Hobbs which included waiting for a UPS 767 to move before taxiing back to the ramp after landing. Rented from George's, and like most places, they...

Can I file/fly IFR right away, or need to wait?

I have my temporary airmen certificate in hand now, showing instrument airplane. I also have my examiners signature and number in my log book next to where he wrote my checkride was successful. Not sure what other proof I would ever need?

Can I file/fly IFR right away, or need to wait?

Update: Finally have my temp certificate in hand. Took one month after the checkride. Like I mentioned, I couldn't fly for the last month due to personal schedule reasons anyways, so I'm not too bothered about the delay. I am glad to finally have it. It appears my experience was unique and a...

Can I file/fly IFR right away, or need to wait?

Agreed! I didn't know the paperwork process would be any different from my PPL checkride. At first I was excited about an in-house examiner cause I have a tight schedule and it was much easier to get him scheduled than an external DPE. Had I known there was a difference, I would have just...

Can I file/fly IFR right away, or need to wait?

Thanks, that would be useful info to have. Of course not. I won't hand over my (still valid and current) PPL until after today's flight. And I won't need to or be able to fly again for 1-2 months anyways for personal schedule reasons, so should be plenty of time for the new temp and/or...

Can I file/fly IFR right away, or need to wait?

The flight school has been around about 15 years and until recently used an external DPE for all courses (like when I did my PPL there and my check ride for PPL was with external DPE). Recently one of the instructors earned examining authority for IRA. I'm the 3rd or 4th student examined by...

Can I file/fly IFR right away, or need to wait?

Talked to the school today. What I learned is the person who conducted my check ride is an FAA authorized internal examiner for the 141 flight school, instead of a full external DPE. So, this examiner is authorized to conduct IR check rides at the specific flight school I attend, but is not...

Can I file/fly IFR right away, or need to wait?

Really interesting responses, thank you all for your input. I still have my PPL in hand (the actual card), and your responses have given me plenty of questions to ask tomorrow when I go back to the school to rent the plane (just a solo xc joyride). No, school is not in Florida, and the...

Can I file/fly IFR right away, or need to wait?

When I completed my PPL that's exactly what happened, I was issued a temporary on the spot. With the IR, they said the temporary will come in an email once the FAA receives the hardcopy of my stuff.

Can I file/fly IFR right away, or need to wait?

Over the weekend I passed my IR checkride and earned my instrument rating from a 141 flight school. They told me that they have to mail my current PPL into the FAA with their records for everything to be processed, and then I'll get a temporary certificate and eventually another fancy permanent...

Can a private pilot log an overseas demo flight with a foreign CFI?

Yes, CR has student pilots. I don't know about the requirements for student pilots in CR. So far I only know that I have to have a co-validated version of my USA PPL if I want to take some IFR training flights here. My main purpose for flying in CR is to keep learning and keep my knowledge...

Can a private pilot log an overseas demo flight with a foreign CFI?

Good question, and I do not have the specific reference from the Costa Rican regulations. This is simply what I was told by the flight school where I took the flight. I checked with a second flight school and they told me the same thing as well. So, I have not found the regulation on my...

Can a private pilot log an overseas demo flight with a foreign CFI?

Circling back with the outcome... I did not log the demo flight. After reading your replies and looking into regulations further, I came to the conclusion that no matter if I manipulated the controls or not, logging it would create a problem as follows: 1. If I did manipulate the controls...

Can a private pilot log an overseas demo flight with a foreign CFI?

Thank you everybody for the information and perspectives shared. It's interesting how many others have found themselves in similar circumstances. I'll follow up with the outcome once I have everything sorted out, hopefully soon.
