    Thermocouple wire connector

Exactly! That’s why I am stressing the direct connection of the wires. The Omegaconnectors does just that providing the thermocouple wires are matched to the connector.

    Thermocouple wire connector

This particular connector is also used by one of JPI’s competitors.

    Thermocouple wire connector

The key, if JPI suggests using a butt splice ,that would be a permanent connection. But they are also “meaning a direct connection of metals. A butt splice, unless having an overlap of the wires , would not be the best connection. Omega provides this, and also offers a quick-disconnect feature...

    Thermocouple wire connector

Omega is one of the experts in this field. They have a chart that will show the different types of thermocouple and which connector to use. Some aircraft instrument manufacturers use these connectors.

    Thermocouple wire connector

My experience with thermocouple wire is the importance of direct contact of the mating wires. If you try to connect with any type of crimp connection other than the exact metals involved, it will alter the readout a bit. So a quick disconnect limits things. I do have a couple of those quick...

    Are fairings part of Airworthiness?

Check the Minimum Equipment List (MEL) for your aircraft. I’m new on this site. Otherwise I could post a photo. If they are cracked, replace them. If you want to remove them, that is another situation.

    Proper use of star washers.

Yes. Depends on the application. If electrical, the contact point should be clear of paint and treated with a corrosion preventative. A star washer would also have a better contact into the metal for a good ground.

    Carb Temperature Gauge

I would definitely recommend Electronics International.

where can I get a connector for this carb temp indicator?

Is the manufacturer Weston, or Westach? Cause if it is Westach, I have a couple of them.

    I need a nut…

I would also check Grainger. Then I probably have a couple in my own inventory.

Dam I am almost out. What do you...

I used Lemon Pledge on a past plane I had until a fellow mechanic informed me it plays hell if you intend to re-paint your plane. So I stopped using it. It was nice because the bug splats would wipe off easier.

Cessna 182 fuel tank venting issue

I just cured my fuel vent problem. I had checked the proximity dimensions of the vent tube to the strut. All was good. Next I performed the tests per maintenance manual of vent check valve. That was good. It wasn’t till I opened up the inspection plates above the wing did I find that the...

Argon vs Nitrogen for a strut

Nitrogen is preferred than air due to air having a very small percentage of moisture and being more stable under different temperatures.

NAV Lights troubleshooting... any thoughts ?

Always start at the voltage source (circuit breaker or fuse) for complicated electrical problems. Afterseeimg the final response that it is cured, what is the chance of relocating that hidden breaker to a more accessible and safer place?

    Fuel Sender/gauge problem fixed.

I just cured the same problem on my C-182. I drained the fuel on my left tank, pulled the inspection plates and found the vent tube line was disconnected at the point where it fits into the crossover tube (on the inboard side of the fuel tank). After I reconnected it, reinstalled the inspection...

    Hot Mag question

Don’t rule out the P-lead wires. Broken strands within wire insulation tend to have different characteristics when warm and cold. Add vibration and weathered connectors.
