    Fuel Cap...

Fortunately, I haven’t taken off without a cap yet, but when pulling my plane out of the hangar recently after a full-serve full up, I noticed a strong smell of fuel and sure enough, the fuel cap hadn’t been replaced. It was streaming back along the wing the whole time I pulled it down our...

    my flight

My FIRST GA flight, I was a chubby <1 year old in my grandfather’s Twin Comanche out of KLXT. First GA flight I remember was as a 5 year old as a Sunday School reward for memorizing the 23rd Psalm in a 152 or 172 out of Independence Memorial (5MO2) which closed about 22-23 years ago. First...

    Customs trouble

Ok, I'll play devil's advocate here. On my Bahamas trip last month, I filed my EAPIS to come back on Friday. Weather wasn't great, so we pushed to Sunday. (Weather still wasn't great, but that's beside the point). There is no way to amend/cancel the EAPIS filing, so if this was one of those AOEs...

    Intersection Takeoff NOT Okay

Was that at KCEF? I departed out of there one night (long night XC during [simulated] instrument training). Controller asked if I wanted to take an intersection departure for 23 at N with something like 3800' available. With my 172, I was all too glad to not have to taxi from the FBO the whole 2...

    Customs trouble

Definitely a different world today with international roaming on our cell phones, but I have traveled to Canada several times and just got back from the Bahamas yesterday. I have not had a horrible experience yet. Night before last, I called customs and told them that I planned to arrive at...

I need help. I want to get to 250 hours as efficiently as possible.

I’ll tell you what I did. Step 1. Take all written tests as early as you can in the process. The more of the theory you know, the less you have to be taught in the airplane (in turn decreasing your costs and time) Step 2. Know all of your requirements going in. Don’t “waste” hours. Always be...

    Chiefs fans.

I want to hear what ACTUALLY happened. My family is still in KC and, while they didn’t attend this years parade, they have gone to the last 2. What I AM hearing is that civilians tackled and disarmed at least one of the suspects. Not sure about the others. Was this just a gang shooting in...

    Treat oil leaks seriously

So it turned out that the crankshaft seal was so loose it could be wiggled with a finger. There was NO sealant around the seal. It has been replaced and sealed and we are on our way again tomorrow!

    It’s just a ****ing game

I mean if some of US had been at the controls, maybe it would have been grueling, but with every bell and whistle known to the aviation community at her disposal, the money to hire the best pilots, and, oh yeah, the silk sheets. Idk if we can call that grueling. In case this isn't sarcasm, TS...

    It’s just a ****ing game

As one who grew up in Kansas City, I found it exciting, nerve-wracking, and overall one of the most exciting Super Bowls ever. SF played well enough to win and so did KC. Neither was dominant, both had mistakes from key players (CMC fumble, Pacheco fumble, Mahomes pick, blocked XP), and both...

    Treat oil leaks seriously

That's what we were doing - deferring until annual when we were going to take care of it. Not sure what we'll do now. I reckon we'll find out more tomorrow when the local A&P can look at it.

    Treat oil leaks seriously

I'm currently stranded at KBQK due to a VERY similar sounding issue. Very little bit of oil streaking back along the cowling for the last year+ and the three A&Ps who have looked at it suggest a leaking crankshaft seal. They've told us it isn't a big deal, so we planned to have it replaced at...

    Boeing’s on a streak...

I mean, while we're at it, let's point out that Boeing has been in the news for a long time. MH370 was a Boeing and so was TWA 800. When you are the largest aerospace company in the world (until the 2019 MAX groundings when Airbus took the top spot), statistically, you are probably also going to...
