LED Landing & Taxi Lights STC

I put mine in my 172 Thursday and flew that night. What a difference! Not neccessarily more light, but the color temp of the light is much better and allows you to see much more detail. And the fact that it draws almost no power is really nice too.

So what do they do if they find something? We're allowed to carry weapons, etc.

    Flying through restricted airspace

Must be different back East than it is here in Arizona. I fly through R-xxx areas all the time. I just did so today. All you have to do here is contact the appropriate controlling entity and ask. They know where the Restricted area really is in use and if there is nothing going on in the...

    Over policed during ramp chk?

Silly me, I thought that a basic legal principal of this country is "innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt." Oh wait, it used to be in the past but not today. Now it's "you're guilty until you prove your innocence".

    Actually, it's 100 miles. Unfortunately.

    Cessna 337 crash near Gainesville

You're not giving a complete answer. Did they say that propellers under power do not always bend forward, only sometimes, never bend forward without power, etc? I could see the possibility that under power does not always cause the tips to bend forward, but a windmilling or moderately powered...

    Cessna 337 crash near Gainesville

As explained to me: under power the propeller is moving faster than forward velocity and the pitch of the prop and force from the engine causes it to bend forward. No power then the forward motion of the plane bends them backwards. I can believe it too. Not too long ago we had a twin land...

    Cessna 337 crash near Gainesville

If I'm not mistaken it's bent the wrong way. Prop strikes under power have the prop tips bent forward, no power has them bent back.

    Commercial Pilot question

I wasn't referring to corporate aircraft. There is passenger for hire out there that operates under Part 91: many skydiving aircraft.

    Commercial Pilot question

That isn't relevant to the question at hand. It's a completely different scenario. The reason this does fall under common carriage is because it is scheduled: 2x a night, Mon - Fri. Can't get much more scheduled that than. Ferrying aircraft is far from scheduled, it's very adhoc.

    Commercial Pilot question

Correct, but that wasn't my question. The passenger isn't paying, or being paid for. The non-IFR Commercial Pilot is being paid to transport an aircraft cross country and the passenger is going along for the ride. Are you saying that if you are carrying passengers for hire you must part 135...

    Commercial Pilot question

I did some searching. Title 14 of the US Code of Federal Regulations does not appear to define "passenger for hire". However, Title 46 does: CFR 46 90.10-29(b) The term passenger for hire means a passenger for whom consideration is contributed as a condition of carriage on the vessel...

    Commercial Pilot question

Huh? How are you going to run a plane under part 135 that has say 200hrs since last annual? 135 requires 100hr checks, doesn't it? It is my understanding that Common Carrier for Hire is defined as "...for the transportation of goods over a definite route and according to a regular...

Future of 100 LL and ethanol in mogas

The terminal isn't the issue, so much. It's all storage in between. Oxygenated blends are extremely corrosive. The entire distribution network has to be capable of handling the oxygenated blend. If you've got a refinery close to the retail, sure, that might be the case. But places like here...

Future of 100 LL and ethanol in mogas

One thing that you very seldom see is the fact that Ethanol free gasoline IS available everywhere. Ethanol is blended into the gasoline at the rack, and most distributors will sell you ethanol free gas. The caveat here is that most will sell you a tanker full, minimum. Assuming you buy a...

    Commercial Pilot question

A friend of mine (student pilot) asked me (Private Pilot) the following question, the answer seems to be less than obvious. What do you all think? You are a Commercial Pilot. However, you do not have an Instrument rating. Per 61.133(b)(1) you have the following limitation on your Commercial...

Is it legal to mount a camera to the wing strut?

Some cups are better than others. These are pretty good. I've had this thing on there for 4 hours, climbing from 1,400MSL to 12,500MSL and back down with a max IAS of 170 without them letting go. Additionally, I've left these things stuck to the side of my car for a week (I forgot to take it...
