    Runup every time?

We have reached a point where we google for information on how to fly an airplane??? That's right up there with "It must be true, I saw it on TV". :hairraise:

    Runup every time?

Before every take-off. Mag checks on both engines and exercise the props. First flight of the day, full pre-flight; subsequent flights, walk around. Check the sumps after fueling. It's a machine, it WILL break. Just a question of when. I'd rather find out while I'm still on the ground.

    Fuel Prices...eat your heart out!

I use the MSN site that posts prices, with the 77079 zip code plugged in. http://autos.msn.com/everyday/GasStations.aspx?m=1&l=1&zip=77079&x=16&y=10 Sometimes lags a day or so, but gives a good general idea.

Sport Pilot "one of the worst things to happen to GA"?

Did you check out those prices? Lordy, I live in Fleetwood, not River Oaks! Correct me if I'm wrong, but that looks like something on the order of 15,000 each. Maybe I didn't look a the right part of the site, but goodness! I just want rent the plane, not buy it. :hairraise:

    Aviation History Gone By...

A gaggle of us were coming off target for home one day out of Hanoi. I had plenty of fuel and no damage. A Navy F-4 had gotten shot up some and needed an escort back to his carrier. I flew his wing on the way out, and through the pattern up until he started his descent to the deck. I looked...

Did you know that all the F-111As did have tailhooks? Yep, they really did. They worked, too. Part of the design when they were first trying to make it an all-services plane. Don't know about the other models, as the A was the only one I flew. Bet Ron could tell us. Had to look up the...

Dings, a poor old Airedale doesn't stand a chance around you guys! Must be a squad of ground-pounders and squishy squids. :D Guess I'll just have to go back to my hootch and break out the wine, see if I can't console myself. Being a pilot is hard lions. That's okay. You...

Funny you should use that term, 'Bus service'. I interviewed with United one time, got an offer, and after some soul-searching, turned them down. My final, private reasoning was that I didn't want to be a glorified bus driver.

If you don't need the room, the 340 is a great plane. I've flown them and, other than size, had no complaints. Flying the hotrod in my signature was just about the most fun you can legally have. I've flown planes that were faster, planes that climbed more quickly and were more forgiving of...

Hi, PJ. Dang, that's a beautiful Mentor! I have got to get over to Hobby one of these days soon.

Primarily a good, common sense document. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone followed such procedures.

Sport Pilot "one of the worst things to happen to GA"?

At the beginning of my career, I asked that question. I had managed to make it into one of the few remaining OCS courses that would be given in the Air Force. A year or so after my class, OCS was discontinued and OTS (for college grads only) was the only path to a commission. I was told, as I...

Sport Pilot "one of the worst things to happen to GA"?

No argument with that. I think the reason the military requires the education in its pilots is the college degree allows the military to presuppose a certain level of learning ability. The fact that so many wash out is proof that's not always a good indicator.

Well, Sir, that's the reason they make Fords and Chevrolets, Cessnas and Pipers. I ran a very successful 135 operation for quite a few years flying 400 series Cessnas. I could never justify kerosene in the budget. As for 'bullet-ridden' geared engines, I've taken many sets to TBO with nothing...

Taking a 162 into the vertical ought to be interesting. For a couple of seconds, anyway. :D

I would dearly love to know what you base the "EAA dimwits" statement upon. As to the second part of your statement that I quoted above, military aviation most definitely disagrees with you.

I very much enjoyed seeing it again. Thanks, Kenny. Those were the days of high adventure in our world, when men had to courage to try. As for the stews, I think 'casual Friday' happened. Sad. :cheerswine:

I vaguely remember the film. Seems like one of them was John Ritter, but I can't be sure. Don't think it was Space Balls, though. Wouldn't be my cup of tea, in any event. What Henning and I are yakking about takes me back to my days of being an active fighter pilot. The practice was pure...
