Want to take off differently, any advice?

Any clearance out of South St Paul is likely take it or leave it. Depending on MSP operations they have hold departures. At least that was what I was told last time I tried picking up my clearance on the ground. What about going VFR to St Paul and full stop taxi back and pick up an IFR there on...

Private Pilot flight school recommendations in Dever area?

Might be of no help but how far are you from KCFO? Not familiar with your area myself, but a few years ago a work colleague was getting his private from a school based there. He seemed pleased with his progress and the school.

    Dangerous guy

This right here. Only real anonymous way to do this is possibly the hotline that Brad Z. posted. Other than that, if you think you should act, then act. I have had to have a lot of difficult conversations in my life, and they don't get easier by not being direct. Passing the buck to the school...

Early Solo and Low time PPL

You absolutely can be ready to solo that early and get your PPL just over 40 hours. Not everyone, but it’s definitely do-able. Some of the stories above make me very happy I have had great instructors. One thing I learned early, act as pilot in command from day 1. If you know what to do, then...

    Man up or not?

Life is short. If you have the means and the family is on board, I’d go for it. Although, depending where you are, your first year you’ll understand that an Instrument Rating is likely a must for improved dispatch rates. Not sure what you can get for $70k, I’d be leery of maintenance, so have...

    Instrument written Sheppard Air

I cannot post links but there is a thread on this site, albeit a few years dated, that discusses the question wording better than I can. “Passed the IR written today...what a ridiculous test.”

    Instrument written Sheppard Air

I had heard about the change from rote memorization, but the questions were all very similar to Sheppard when I took it. They weren’t all carbon copies of Sheppard questions, but similar enough. Maybe it’s changed since. The poorly written aspect - I have felt all my FAA knowledge exams have...

    Instrument written Sheppard Air

Ideally Sheppard and other sources to have a full understanding… but I used only Sheppard and if you follow it, it works very well. The written has poor questions and poorly worded questions. My experience is that Sheppard alone would yield a high score for most people.

    UAV legal questions

Spraying your own crop is personal use. Spraying others is commercial. Same as transporting or spraying your own crops yourself vs hauling or spraying for hire. that said I don’t anticipate a drone to be a viable spraying option at this time in history, spot spraying or not. *Edited to add I...

    Hot Start Phobia

Long time lurker, first time poster. Might be able to help. When starting again within 2 hours from shut-down, cowl-flaps open, and open the oil door on top of the cowl to help dissipate heat. My hot start procedure (works for me 9/10 times): -Do not prime -Throttle 1/4 open -Mixture cut off...
