Building a Glasair Sportsman - has anyone done it?

I posted our Sportsman TWTT build experience here http://www.pilotsofamerica.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38514 We are very happy with our decision to switch from owning an old certified plane (Cardinal 1970 C177B) to a new experimental plane. We added a backup battery and alternator...

    Sun-N-Fun Tornado?

Yesterday we first got a message from Scott Taylor (GA operation manager) that our plane was OK. This was followed by a photo of N307HL standing upright among the carnage with what appeared to be double ropes tie downs. I went ahead with my plan and flew to TPA this morning. I arrived at...

    Sun-N-Fun Tornado?

What a horrible news. At least that no one was seriously hurt. I feel like a very anxious parent waiting to hear the status of N307HL which is at Glasair display area. I am scheduled to fly down to Florida by Jetbue and fly her to NY afer the show on Monday. Originally I had thought of...

Need one-way ride to SnF from the NE

Holiday Palm Inn. It gets mixed reviews at trip advisor. The most recent ones with one very positive on Feb 23, 10 and one very negative on April 17, 10. The pictures look fine and the amenities are good so I decided to take a chance. If it is as bad as the negative review, I will just...

    FSDO Visit

Jesse, Congratulations. Do you have a student lined up for the first lesson? My husband and I were the first students of our first flight instructor. His enthusiasm for flying rubbed on us like Tinker Bell's fairy dust. This magic dust still works after 10 years and almost 1000 flight...

Need one-way ride to SnF from the NE

I got a ride offer from Arnold but unfortunately Lancaster airport was a bit too far from Poughkeepsie. With gas and airline ticket prices going up everyday, I decided to purchase an one way commercial ticket today from White Plains to Tampa Bay. It is cheaper to fly from White Plains to Orlando...

    strikemaster crashes into hudson river

John still has his Citabria. I was supposedly to take float plane training in his Citabria last year but could not squeeze it in between our South Africa bush pilot training/flying safari last May and building the Sportsman last September. We plan to take a couple of long cross country trips...

    strikemaster crashes into hudson river

We were based at KPOU but frequently used 20N to practice our approaches. We had also landed there often (John Morrow, our commercial instructor is based there & his EAA chapter orgarnize Young Eagle flights at 20N every year). I agree that 20N is a very nice airport especially after the...

Need one-way ride to SnF from the NE

I would like to know if anyone from the NE (NY, CT, NJ, MA) plan to fly to SnF and has an extra seat. Due to weather we had not flown our Sportsman which was built last October from Arlington WA to NY. Glasair asked us to show N307HL at SnF so I will fly it from FL to NY after the show. I...

Our fun Sportsman TWTT (two weeks to taxi) build experience

Yes, I did check in the Bearhawk but since tri gear is not an option, it was off the list. Rick has a bad fused right ankle and think that a tail wheel plane would require more rudder work than he could handle. It appears that the Sportsman's rudder control was designed for tail wheel...

Our fun Sportsman TWTT (two weeks to taxi) build experience

Chris, As you see in the video, we discovered that the idle was set a bit low in the first taxi. We also did not have the windshield installed (it was fitted and ready to be installed but they wanted to make sure all the avionic wirings were finalized first). If we had a 'standard' Glasair...

Our fun Sportsman TWTT (two weeks to taxi) build experience

Thank you all who read my loong post and watching the video. As I posted earlier (in an Oshkosh related thread) that we made the decision to go with the Glasair Sportsman TWTT program somewhat 'impulsively' while at Oshkosh. It was a big purchase decision which put a huge dent in our...

Our fun Sportsman TWTT (two weeks to taxi) build experience

Here is a record of our Sportsman 2+2 TWTT build experience, a ‘documentary’ video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P81unsClhbk Glasair assigned two main A&Ps, Ben Rauk and Ian Hawk, to work with us. We met Ben at Oshkosh. Rick was very doubtful on whether we could tackle the build...

HOPS Party Wednesday in the N40...

Hi Jay, We are very sorry to miss the party. We lugged some good beer all the way from New York to Oshkosh with full intention to attend your party but ended up not making it. We arrived at Osh late Tuesday and could only find a high ground good tenting spot at the far end of Camp...

Check field conditions before heading to OSH

Hi Jay, I thought that you were not coming to Oshkosh this year. We will extend our stay in Michigan for another day and depart for Oshkosh on Tuesday. I hope that camp Scholler ground will dry out by then. It's no fun tenting on soggy ground. We sold our Cardinal last month...

Rich, I have been using ImgBurn along with several Nero versions without any problems. You may want to change the order of installations of the two programs to see if it helps. HPL

FAA's Sample Knowledge Test Questions - commercial

Joe, I took the Commercial Knowledge Test about this time last year. The downloaded test bank from the FAA did contain a number of FOI questions so it appeared that the same test bank is used for the Commerical and CFI tests. Of course none of the FOI questions came up when I took the test...

Do you have insurance for your airplane?

How about just underinsure the hull value? At 1.5 to 2% hull insurance cost of stated value, underinsuring the hull by $20K gives you $300-$400 premium reduction/year.
