    Any pilots based in CMX?

I wanted to learn about what the GA activity in CMX (Houghton/Hancock) looks like with respect to Pilot Clubs, FBO, hangar space etc.. Would appreciate any information related to it. Thanks.

    Unequal fuel draw

Our club 182 has been experiencing unequal fuel draw from the tanks. It has been drawing more fuel from the left tank than the right. Running it on left or right separately seems to work fine, but "Both" seems to draw mostly from the left tank. This has been getting worse over time. The last...

Any good places with high speed internet nearby OSH for a business meeting?

Anyone know if there is reasonable internet within walking distance from EAA to have a Zoom meeting (ie somewhat quiet, desk and chair)? Starbucks would work, but the nearest one seems to be a good 4 miles away.

    A new airport

Unusual news these days to hear about a new airport being opened: https://www.wvxu.org/local-news/2023-06-15/gallatin-county-regional-airport-sparta-kentucky-open

Where to find legacy approach charts?

Anyone know if there is an archive of expired or decomissioned approach charts? Some of the approaches I have in my logbook are no longer available, and I was curious what they looked like back then.

    1963 ATC explained

I am sure some of you might have seen this before, but I thought I'd share this classic video I enjoyed watching. Except for the overuse of "roger" and "over", and radar "reply codes" (is that the same as squawk codes?), and paper flight progress strips, it seems nearly the same as today's ATC.

    flightaware area search

Is there any way to find all the airplanes that were in a certain geographic area within a certain time period?

    Alternator [NA]

My car alternator failed, but the discharge light never came on. Fortunately, the battery had just enough juice to limp back home. I removed the instrument cluster, and found that the light itself was fine. It turns out that the warning light will come only if the alternator's stator winding is...

    V20 MEA near DC

The V20 airway segment between OTT and COLIN just south of the DC area has an MEA of 10,000 and a MOCA of 1800. Anyone know what's going on here for such a high MEA? https://skyvector.com/?ll=38.393684913320556,-76.66883503260121&chart=434&zoom=4&fpl=undefined

    VDP

I am curious about how to interpret this VDP. Usually, it is the point along the glidepath that intersects the nonprecision MDA. But this one (RNAV 3R at LUK) shows a VDP that is presumably above the MDA. So at what altitude is this VDP located...

How to replay a gpx file on a moving map?

I am looking for ideas on how I can replay a recorded gpx track (which contains time stamps, positions and altitudes recorded from a gps) and replay it on a sectional or approach chart like in a moving map. Basically, can any of the tablet apps read gps data from a gpx file instead of a real gps?

    Fitting type/size for oxygen cannula

For a homebrew oxygen setup, I was looking for the specs of this connector. The inside diameter of the female connector is about 0.2" but it doesn't seem to match any of the standard barb fitting sizes. Does anyone know what this type of connector is called...

    Gradient filter for GoPro Session5?

Unless it is heavily overcast, most of my outside views end up being saturated. I know I can reduce the ISO or shutter time, but that also makes the inside look too dark. I have tried some gradient filters, but I could not find a good way to mount them on my GoPro Session 5 and to ensure that...

How to delete saved flight plans on Skyvector

I have a bunch of saved flight plans on skyvector from years of use, and I don't see a way to delete them to reduce the clutter. It only gives me the option to "Load Plan" or "Create copy". I don't see a "Delete". Anyone know?

    MSFS 2020 never runs

I've owned FS2020 for about a year now, and have run it only a handful of times. Every time I start the software after a few weeks of not using it, it goes into "Gaming Services" and just sits there, as if I should know what to do next (screenshot attached). Even if I find my way to the FS2020...

    CAS, IAS and white/green arcs

Most of the airplanes I have flown specify V speeds in IAS, and the green & white arcs are also in IAS. But I have come across a few older airplanes which specify these in CAS. That in itself is odd, but to add to the confusion, the published V speeds and the markings on the instrument don't...

    CTAF calls during instrument approach

I know this topic has been discussed before. But it happens a bit too often to not bring it up again. When flying instrument approaches in VFR conditions, it is the responsibility of the IFR traffic to make comprehensible radio calls. It should not be upto the VFR traffic in the pattern to...

    GoPro prices?

In 2018 I bought a GoPro Hero5 Session for $199. I thought that was pretty steep for a cube camera. Today that same camera is going for $685 on Amazon. The cheapest I could find was $300 on Ebay. Afterall it is a 4 year old technology. Anyone know what is going on?

    Fuel efficiency of airplanes

This is a discussion I've had many times with other pilots and friends. Efficiency can't just be measured in miles per gallon. So I decided to put my analysis into a blog post. I am sure I got some of the aspects wrong, so I would appreciate your input on this...

    Unlisted AWOS?

HLB has a shared CTAF and AWOS frequency of 122.725. I assumed you activate the AWOS just like the PCL. But I got nothing. Sectional chart and chart supplement had no additional information. Airnav had nothing else to say. But foreflight had a different frequency listed for their AWOS, which...
