Bremerton AOPA Event - IFR routing around SEA area

Planning on flying IFR Spokane to Bremerton via V2 on Thursday the 18th before the special NOTAM kicks in on Friday. What is the most likely transition near Seattle? SEA? HOOME? Other? Thanks, Marc

    The Best IFR Hood

The very best arrangement I ever had was while doing my inital IFR training in a 182. The instructor had me buy a small section of bubble wrap. I cut it to a size a bit larger than the glass from the forward door frame to the middle of the windscreen and from the top to bottom of the windscreen...

    Shared Ownership

We have a four person arrangement for a DA40 at CYBW. Corporation owns the plane, we each own 25%. Monthly fee for fixed expenses (hanger, insurance, jepp, etc.) , hobbs based fee for variable including fuel, prop and engine replacement. Each has priority for every fourth week and we negotiate...

    Nicest FBO you've been to

Duncan Aviation, Battle Creek http://www.duncanaviation.aero/ Amazing reception for two Canadian pilots heading home from Oshkosh in a DA40!! They treated us like we were their best customers flying a Gulfstream.

Can someone explain what the "Arrival" freq. is in Canada?

To give you an idea of the handoff sequence, this is the sequence of an IFR flight from Red Deer last Saturday: Coming in IFR to CYBW (Calgary, Springbank) from the west, north west or south west you will talk to: 1. Edmonton Centre (132.85) , 2. Calgary Terminal (west - 128.7), 3. CYBW...

IFR Routing from KGXY to KCOS

Hi I'm doing some advance planning for a trip from Calgary to Colorado Springs for the AOPA event in September. What is the typical routing from KGXY to KCOS? (via WITNE LIMEX?) I'm betting that ATC would like to route you around, not over, Denver airport. Thanks Marc

Minor Repair or that should buff out

May years ago I had the opportunity to see a Canadian Airlines 767 being repaired after a major tail strike. Quite impressive with the elaborate laser levelling and alignment tools. Quite the armada of Boeing people and specialized fixtures and tools.

    ForeFlight 6.6 - Synthetic Vision

My "flying" variable glasses are designed to read the panel and for long distance. I tried using the iPad mini on a bracket next to me on my immediate left (on a mount attached to the canopy) but could not read it as it was too close. So now I use my iPad on my lap. In addition, I would not...

    ForeFlight 6.6 - Synthetic Vision

The new Foreflight with synthetic vision came out today. Quite impressive - no - BLOODY IMPRESSIVE!! But, to use it in my DA40 you need to mount the iPad in landscape mode and exactly parallel to the G1000 displays. That would of course block the screens. But if the screens went dead in IMC...

    New Cold Temp compensation Requirements

Found the answer on the red board thread on this topic. Surprisingly civil and seemingly well informed group of posters. Marc

    New Cold Temp compensation Requirements

This new standard appears to be identical to the IFR procedure and chart currently stipulated by Transport Canada and published in Cap Gen under "Altitude Correction Chart / Cold Temperature Corrections" Do I understand that there is a significantly different procedure in place now in the...

    Practical Use of ....

Best part of my Diamond with a G1000 is that it doesn't have an ADF!! :-) Most frustrating thing I had to sort out on my initial IFR test in a C182 several years ago. FYI, the most recent bi-annual IFR re-certification in Canada is that, if you have a G1000 and an autopilot, you are...

    Where to fly in Ireland?

Thanks Murphy. Thanks Scrabo. (interesting tower) My plan is to fly to Dublin, have a drink , rent a car, and start driving with my camera bag by my side. I'll send you a photo of the tower if I get there. Marc

    Where to fly in Ireland?

I plan to be in Ireland for a few weeks on a vacation road trip in May and would like to do some local area flying with an instructor. Any recommendations on flying clubs? Thanks Marc

    G1000

I fly at DA-40 with a G1000 and a KAP140. After some 100 hrs with the G1000, the "look at the screen" wow factor has dissipated and it has become a tool - an excellent tool! And particularly for approaches in IMC - much easier than steam gauges. There is a 50% share of a nice Mooney...
