New info for Experimental Aircraft to Mexico

That's correct. The fellow clearly admits the $1700 fee is to grease the palms of appropriate government workers to hand carry your application to the right people and get approval.

    Thank you, Dan. That helps.

    Tappet clearance

Is there any way to measure tappet clearance on an IO360 angle valve without pulling the cylinder and push rod tubes? I obviously need to depressurize the lifters but don't think it's possible while it's still in the engine. Anyone have a trick to getting them out? Thanks

    Question about Experimental

I updated my RV-9A's panel and fly VFR or IFR anywhere certified aircraft do with the exception of Mexico. This year, Mexico decided to take a very narrow interpretation of the US E-AB certificate and will not allow E-AB into their airspace. I previously flew to Cabo and Vallarta without any...

Best X/C aircraft besides Vans RV

All these aircraft are good. It depends on your mission, budget and skill level what fits you best. There's no objective BEST which is why there are choices. I have a -9A with an IO-320. 148 kts. LOP in cruise at 6.7 gph is great but, at times I wish I had 2 more seats for friends. Flown from...

Is It Better to Fly at 55% Power or 75% Power, in Terms of Engine Health?

A while back, I came across an interesting thread on one of the forums discussing Carson speed. It was an interesting mathematical derivation I fond very useful. Here's one of many articles you can find on Google but gives a good introduction. Take it where you want. Hope this helps some...

    Pulse oximeter

Excellent point. Some assumed familiarity and safety practice was assumed but, absolutely, caution is advised if you're a DIY oxygen fill. Thanks for that.

    Pulse oximeter

I have a large cylinder in my hangar and made a transfill setup to keep my "D" bottle filled using O2 anytime above 8000 for more than 30 minutes. As I get older, even mild hypoxia affects me in thought, reaction and fatigue. I use the Mountain high nasal cannula that attaches to my headset and...

    RV-9 with Rotax 915

We regularly travel in our -9A and usually stay between 9-12k. LOP we are around 62-64% at 6.7 gph, 147 kts TAS. The 915 would be a tempting replacement to my IO-320 given where we fly but I'm no engineer, someone waaaaay smarter than I would have to do the "cipherin'".
