I am in for a tough time getting my 3rd Class medical, and I could use any advice or encouragement.

I am no longer on medication and the drive remains. Having a strong drive was never an issue. Before my mother died, I was on the same high-drive pathway I am on now; running/growing a business, buying a house, raising children, etc. It is only that the drive diminished when I was presented with...

    LSA training

Truer words have never before been spoken. FAA medical policy for LSA is basically “don’t ask, don’t tell.”

Near ready to pull the trigger on a Flight Design CTLS. Thoughts?

Yeah I look forward to having that autopilot. I’m really anal about keeping perfect altitude and heading, but it can be tough to do when I have to divert attention to navigation, frequency tuning, checklists, etc. There’s a reason I paid extra for the adaptive cruise and lane assist features in...

Near ready to pull the trigger on a Flight Design CTLS. Thoughts?

According to the broker, there was some damage to the engine casing due to the cabin heat line being improperly installed or fastened. Due to the relatively cheap cost of the Rotax, it was more economical to just swap the engine out when labor is accounted for.

Near ready to pull the trigger on a Flight Design CTLS. Thoughts?

Most of my dual has been in a few different “rust bucket” Cherokees. I’m looking forward to the sharpness of the CTLS. But yeah the plane fits my current mission perfectly.

Yeah I think my kids are too young to even consider flying more than a quick 45 minute hop right now anyway. Not sure if I’ll be able to get my wife in the right seat of the CTLS, but I’ll try!

Near ready to pull the trigger on a Flight Design CTLS. Thoughts?

Thanks for the tips, Brian! I was thinking the same thing about the windshield target. My wife has a Cricut, so I was thinking about cutting out a vinyl crosshair to slap up. If nothing else, it would help stay on the glide slope. As for the capability, I think you're right. In all my looking...

Near ready to pull the trigger on a Flight Design CTLS. Thoughts?

Not sure. A buddy asked me the same question. I'm going to ask the seller about it when I call them in a bit.

    LSA training

Meaning you lose the ability to fly LSA if you're deferred or denied? If so, yeah it is.

I am in for a tough time getting my 3rd Class medical, and I could use any advice or encouragement.

Just an update for anyone who is interested: After lots of reading, conversations with advocates, AMEs (including Dr. Lou!), and others in the community, and a lots of option weighing, I have made a decision on how I will proceed. Instead of rolling the dice with the class 3 and setting myself...

Near ready to pull the trigger on a Flight Design CTLS. Thoughts?

As the title suggests, I'm planning to buy a Flight Design CTLS. I found a 2011 with decent airframe hours that, in a couple of weeks, will be getting a brand new engine. The plane has all the bells and whistles to make it a great little cruiser. Since the plane is getting a new engine, I...

    LSA training

Keep in mind that if your medical is deferred or denied, you can't fly LSA even if you are already certified. Since you expect a deferral, you need to be prepared for a likely extensive, possibly permanent, grounding once you apply for your Class 3.

    Bad Cat Scan Math

Oh and as a fun fact, you are actually exposed to increased levels of radiation based on your altitude and global position. If you're an airline pilot, you will be exposed to significantly more radiation each year than someone who works on the ground. It's not enough to be concerning; it's just...

    Bad Cat Scan Math

Okay so I actually know some about this topic. It's not quite as simple as you put it! For one, the unit of measure you mentioned, the roentgen, is an legacy measurement of ionizing radiation (the kind a CT scan uses). The more appropriate form of radiation exposure is a Sievert, which can...

Acute Anxiety with Emergency Room Visit - Complete Disqualifier?

I'm not a doctor. I'm not even a damn pilot. But I know a lot about this process because my story is similar (though honestly more severe). I'm just now starting this process. Like Dr. Lou said, you may need to undergo some further evaluation. However, here's what I've learned: the only way you...

As they probably should be! I don't plan to withhold a damn thing from Dr. Bruce.

Yeah I can see that. The nay-sayers and tough critics are, in an odd way, helpful. It may hurt to read what they say, but they help keep me grounded. I want to stay optimistic, but understand the reality and gravity of the situation at the same time.

I am in for a tough time getting my 3rd Class medical, and I could use any advice or encouragement.

No I didn't have it. My only choice to get a PPL is to get my 3rd class now. And yeah, I can understand what you mean. Drinking heavily recreationally could, I suppose, be viewed as "better". Either way it's bad. The good news is that now I am using constructive outlets and professional guidance...
