When do you slowdown to VA

Maybe the rules for calculating Va needs to be reviewed as some folks may not be totally clear on meaning.

    Route suggestions, Boise to Dallas...

For the northern route folks, no reason at all to go east all the way to CYS. Hang a right at LAR and point it southeast towards FNL. Stay a bit north of FNL and it’s a fairly low crossing. Seems like a minor shortcut on a map maybe but it’s practical with gas stop options ranging from GXY to...

Flying an LSA cross-country VFR. Any suggestions on my routing?

Pretty much, without the snapping part. They’ll also tell you to check gear down. why? Dunno, it’s the state capitol and has a minor (joke) Air Force base next door. Maybe they just want to seem impotent?

Flying an LSA cross-country VFR. Any suggestions on my routing?

I haven’t been there since pre-corona. Just call the field and ask - they are helpful to fellow pilots.

Flying an LSA cross-country VFR. Any suggestions on my routing?

Not to SLC but Evanston and then head off towards Bear Lake. Low country up that way.

Flying an LSA cross-country VFR. Any suggestions on my routing?

Radar coverage is pretty good along I-80. If you’re up around 10,000 it shouldn’t be a problem. ADS-B coverage is good too. If you need food/fuel Rawlins, Evanston and Riverton are good stops in Wyoming. They all have crew cars in some form. Laramie too but if you’re stopping in Cheyenne that...

Flying an LSA cross-country VFR. Any suggestions on my routing?

Approaching from the lee side too…better to just go around. Follow I-80. 9,500’ on a hot day is what density altitude? DA has killed more than a few flatlanders for thinking temperature doesn’t matter. I Follow Roads and lowest possible roads is a survival plan, not just easy nav through the...

Flying an LSA cross-country VFR. Any suggestions on my routing?

KGLD instead of KSYF for the Butterfly cafe on-field and they’ll pump the gas for you. SYF is mostly a duster base. You can walk to a diner there if you want.

    Playing through…

I believe so Used the ol’ “shed the nose gear to get her stopped” brake no idea who was driving, it’s used as a trainer based at APA as far as I know

    STRUGGLING

Good to hear that things are working out for you. Sometimes it just takes a bit of practice and perseverance to get things to fall into place. We all have/had various challenges in training and practice.

Vis or RVR? What's legal in this case?

Unless things have changed since my part 91 days it is legal to shoot the approach under part 91 since minimums don't apply to that decision. Part 135 and 121 are a different story altogether (everyone chime in here and repeat "a different story"). As I understand it an approach to rwy 9 would...

    STRUGGLING

Another thing to help nav is to work on always identifying cardinal directions. In simple words always be aware of which way is north. By always I mean from the moment of waking until sleeping. Might sound a little silly but it’s intended to make one always think about where they are and where...

    Cessna 172 down, Broomfield colorado

Yeah, nobody aims for the crosswind except helicopters. I used it twice in a couple years flying there and one of the times was at night during calm winds to get the ten night landings in as quickly as possible.

    Cessna 172 down, Broomfield colorado

To the north is lower terrain which makes it an interesting choice. My experience with a downdraft in nearly the same circumstance was to maintain heading while going to full power and pitching for best climb. I bottomed out near four hundred and rejected the landing. Tower called and asked if...

There can be some nasty winds at Metro. Windshear and downdrafts are not necessarily frequent, just common.

Bay Area to Greeley CO VFR planning help

Following I80 across Wyoming as far as Laramie is a pretty good route. Be aware of high winds around Laramie. Hang right at Laramie and head southeast to the state line, pick up the power lines and follow them east out over the plains. Greeley will be pretty much in front of you. Wouldn’t...

    P210 down in Denver March 8, 2022

Flight originated at Dodge City, KS. Some video was posted of fire extinguished by South Metro. Interesting timing on the firefighting as the fire flared up pretty good while the the guys were dragging hose into position. The aircraft looked intact for the most part in the long range views after...
