    Garmin G5 altitude bug question

Thanks for the feedback. There are two reasons I’d prefer an easy way to turn it off when not needed: 1. It’s a tiny bit of extra clutter on the small display. 2. I just installed an autopilot, and the behavior of the AP interface is slightly different if the G5 has an altitude bug set...

    Garmin G5 altitude bug question

When the Garmin G5 (ADI) is powered on, the altitude bug is "off" (not visible). Then, when I go into the menu to set the altitude bug, I cannot find a way to turn it "off" again. I can then only select a different altitude. Does anyone know a way to do this without power cycling the G5...

(Dec 10 2020) Passenger Walk Into Running Propeller

Well then, an item to add to our passenger briefings! Another thought, even as rare as these seem to be: Why use "glow in the dark" paint, just a stripe on the front-edge of each propeller tip? For at least some number of hours after sunset the prop disc would be very visible to an unwitting...

Plane crashes into vehicles just short of KWHP (Los Angeles)

I'm creating a list of "reminders" I've learned from accident reports and this forum. Ed, that's a good one, added to the top. I tend to fly tight patterns (but not quite a regular "break" or circle approach), but * Make your pattern tight esp. with few off-field landing options * Aim for...

    Instrument Scan with 1 or 2 G5s?

I'm now flying behind two G5's, with the 4 steam gauges surrounding it. I, too, am trying to find a comfortable scan. It occurs to me that "partial panel" training or practice must be done differently. Please share your partial panel exercises with dual G5's.

    C177 down Whidbey Island (W10)

I received the FlightRadar24 "7700" notification and watched this live. I was hopeful they made it, as the tracking appeared to end on the runway. Very sad. Condolences to the families. Looks like ceilings were very low. I see a learning here, if the only possible airport is very small...

Plane crashes into vehicles just short of KWHP (Los Angeles)

Agreed, hitting the fence is more likely survivable that having the wires flip you over. I'm certain they never saw the powerlines, by the time they were close enough the wires and probably even the poles would have been obscured by the cowling. I would think (wrongly) that any city or airport...
