My thought is it would be best to repair as a “ Winter Project”.
Few shops can devote techs to work on this continuously.
That would mean turning away regular customers for Annuals etc.
This would entail pulling wings for transport .
I agree with Bell. Presume OP would not actually do the repair.
It will take longer and cost more than planned.
Likely the best option be to let Insurance Company take it () if he
has Hull Coverage. Or sell as is.
I’m sure there are folks that would want it.
You may want to begin with understanding what you currently have.
I’ll guess and say at least one of the beacons was installed in the field.
This would likely be done via STC or Field Approval and be documented by
a 337. This doc ; in turn, probably makes reference to AC43.13-2 which
deals...
To me that term means the task was not done and the the signer has
committed a fraud and a Federal Offense by falsifying Aircraft Records.
Not related to in- person or remote.
Is a borescope remote?
How about if it is transmitted live; across the room or across the state?
IIRC Actor Jim Neighbors is buried there also.
A “ Aviation Enthusiast’s Guide to Destinations “ would be great.
Hate to find out what you missed.
IMHO If you really want to see “Hawaii” skip Oahu and go to Maui.
Bell : Your comment in #30 is worthy of the late, great Bill O’ Brien!
However; the dilemma continues for me.
If I were to personally change the plug or observe the Student Pilot do so makes little difference.
For me it’s a day as i would likely not be able to go elsewhere.
1 hr drive each...
OP description is accurate.
I really wish I had rented an aircraft though.
Road is unbelievable.
Haleakala was great and very different!
Above the clouds on a bicycle!
A suspect in his son’s death.
Really?
It seems to me that OP’s thought is not to conduct an entire Annual
Inspection virtually but rather to allow some tasks to be accomplished
in a reasonable manner. My example of the Student Pilot installing a Spark
Plug would be one.
Why they would be allowed to perform the same task once...
My thought is it might be a good idea to put an example in.
Replacing a spark plug is allowable Preventative Maintenance
IF the owner of the aircraft is a PPL or higher.
Supervising a Student Pilot via live FT doing the same task is a thought.
Why proficiency in Short Field Landings and...
There are “ Inspection Props” that are changed post Annual. One guy even
bought lawnmower battery to do likewise. Yet another used Bondo to
re-contour his prop tips,. Changing tags on seat belts is another practice.
These are things Techs often hear about later. Following only...
You would do well to consider this as “ Continuing Education”
and log the time toward the A & P. Ya never know!
It’s likely much of this would not be in the Curriculum.
Specific aircraft are not taught.
That’s why it’s called a License to Learn.
The 180 upgrade uses most of the original items but sometimes
modifies them.
There are good reasons the Owner is responsible for maintenance
per FAR. “ Do whatever you think” could result in a $99K bill!
That statement does not get you off the hook either.
As you become accustomed to the...
The screws in pic are the common “Type A” variety.
Cessna typically uses the “Type B” ( blunt ) flavor.
Hard to tell from pic as to just what is being secured.
There are actually very few items the owner cannot do during an Annual Inspection.
The biggest being the actual signing of Inspection in the Records.
The IA must perform the Inspection; even if the Owner or A& P has done the same.
Not true with a Repair Station though.
My belief is that most...
Seems like all doable little stuff that will pay dividends later.
I like to use old SCAT ducting with wire removed as a light duty
chafe pad. Practice rivet install and remove and go for it!
115/145, JP -4, 5606, MEK, dope and paint thinners, Imron, solder, leaded
mo-gas , mineral spirits and zinc chromate has been in my life for 60+
years. Do they neutralize each other?
