Becoming an AMT (A&P) through OJT

The original thread is too old so I'll start a new one... I came here to ask a question about the timeframes for taking the two tests when going the OJT route. I had previously been told that I should wait until my 30 months are up before taking the tests—at which point I should take both...

Pry bar found under engine cowling when I removed it.

Thanks for both the useful and humorous comments. I'm not completely happy about it, but I do feel a bit better about it. I'm starting my A&P classes in August specifically so I can both understand and not be at the mercy of other shops for all my repairs.

Pry bar found under engine cowling when I removed it.

It certainly wasn't their the last time I had it off and it hasn't been in the shop for engine maintenance since. No idea when that could've been placed there, but the airport's service that does towing did crack my wheel fairing so it was in their shop to replace it. I see no reason why they...

Looking for decent Heading Indicator for PA-32

I am interested. Does it have a heading bug? Do you have a model number so I can ask the avionics shop if that'll be compatible? How much are you asking?

Looking for decent Heading Indicator for PA-32

I am need of a vacuum heading indicator with a bug for a PA-32-300. Used or refurbished is perfect fine for a vacuum unit. A Garmin GI 275 and other digital units are not an option for me right now. Is there an online seller that you prefer for this kind of purchase? Thank you for your assistance.

    OAT requirement?

Is adding a digital OAT and sensor to the side of my plane something I can legally install on my own or is this something I need to have done by a licensed avionics shop? Where do I find the ins-and-outs of what I can and can't do to my own airplane?

Rain pooling in back of cabin

Yeah, outdoor is not ideal but hangers aren't easy to come by. I'm not seeing any moisture inside the top of the fuselage. Not even seeing any in the tail that isn't just some condensation from the humidity, but can't be 100% certain yet. I'll have a better idea come Friday.

Rain pooling in back of cabin

I have a PA-32-300 at a tiedown. I just moved from a dry climate to a wet one and now have an issue with rain water getting in the cabin. So far I haven't been able to find the leak but my plan is to try again on Friday when it's not raining by removing the the inside panels and using a...

PA-32/300 Fuel Tank SB646A - how much did it cost you?

Have you had the service bulletin SB646A: Fuel Tank Vent Modification and vent Hose Replacement completed? And SB1006: Corrosion Inspection of Main Fuel Tanks, (because they kind of go hand in hand). How much did this cost for you? And how long did this service take? I’m asking because I’m...

Best Methods for Cooling an Engine?

I asked about the rapid heating when you start the engine but couldn't get a straight answer and my AFM doesn't cover any of these "home grown" solutions. I'm just doing what I was taught, hence me asking here for other options. Thanks for the link. I enjoy AVWeb's content.

Best Methods for Cooling an Engine?

If it's not that complicated to cool an engine properly could you share what procedure you employ?

    GoPro Audio-In?

Unless I'm wrong, there's no way to get my GoPro to connect to my Garmin GMA 345's Bluetooth to push audio to the video feed. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/506609 I see that there are some wired options available that work by using both a GoPro adapter for splitting the USB-C input into...

Best Methods for Cooling an Engine?

I have a PA-32-300 which means that I need to adjust the prop, RPMs and manifold pressure as I'm climbing, cooling before descending, and descending. I was taught to start by dropping 2 inches every 2 minutes until I get to 20, at which point I can start my descent without risk to damaging the...

Low-cost fuel prices: Slow to update or bait-&-switch?

I didn't realize I could update the prices in FF. I'll have to look into that.

Low-cost fuel prices: Slow to update or bait-&-switch?

I've only encountered this a couple times but I'm bringing it up now because I've also only encountered it in one direction: do you think these prices are slow to update to steer people to the airport to buy fuel. One recent example of this is KTCY. They are showing $4.05 on Foreflight, so I...

Piper Conversion to a Single Piece Windshield?

Update: I'm going with a two-piece replacement in clear with UV protection at 1/4" thickness. The only one that seems to offer this is LP Aero. The installer, T & P Aero Refinishers in Salinas, offered the best rates and seemed to be the most competent when talking to them on the phone. They...

Piper Conversion to a Single Piece Windshield?

Thanks for the input. I've decided on a 2-piece clear with UV protection from LP Aero. Now I just need to find a place that will install them in CA (or surrounding states). Flying there isn't a problem since the current windshield is still intact. Anyone know of any good shops and what this...

Piper Conversion to a Single Piece Windshield?

I called Cee Bailey this morning and they told me that their "solar gray" does not offer any UV protection. If you're suggesting it purely because of the visual appearance of the tint, what do you like about it over clear? I'm under the impression it makes it harder to see at night.

Piper Conversion to a Single Piece Windshield?

I need to replace my windshield. It's still 2 piece on my PA-32. Personally, I kinda like the beam in the center, but I'm still going to do some homework before I discount the option of moving to a single windshield. I was wondering if anyone here has gone that route and if they liked it. I...
