Is General Aviation Dying in the USA?

Model T Fords used to be worth good money until our grandparents died. Try to get rid of one of those in an estate sale today... I learned to be a farrier in 4-H. Haven't made a dollar doing that for 30 years, either.

Is General Aviation Dying in the USA?

Oh yeah, you and Pete Zitbag will save a bundle in fuel buying a $125,000 POS LSA over an old 172 for $25k. See you at the high limit tables at the Sands...

Thank goodness the Wrights didn't go to Texas, or we'd never hear the end of it. Or the math involved.

Appeals Court: Cirrus not responsible for plane crash that killed two

That's a classic, "can't do the crime, don't do the time" argument.

I don't know of any state that has the aviation version of an SR-22 law. A lender may require you to have hull insurance, but that's not a statutory requirement. Bank of Amerika could require you to wear a pink thong every time you slip the surly bonds of earth, and as long as you sign their...

Appeals Court: Cirrus not responsible for plane crash that killed two

Don't take this personally, but you're probably a better driver than you are a pilot. At least compared to the risk pools you're put into. You always have the ability to fly without hull or liability coverage, as long as you're not a renter.

    Best Headset Features

Once upon a time, we had a speaker in the overhead that could overcome cabin noise. That was partly due to the audio amps in the navcoms that could power the speakers so we could hear and partly because we didn't buy $1,000 headsets because there weren't any $1,000 headsets we could buy. The...

    Where it all began...

I was going to give up drinking for Lent, but all of the Catholic girls talked me out of it. I lent my Commander to a friend, and he didn't return it. Doesn't matter because Commanders have no commercial value these days, according to my insurance broker. The cops weren't much help either...

    Where it all began...

Fail. The Wright Brothers' Kitty Hawk ground crew mainly consisted of gays that were thrown off the local fishing boats. Think about it - no normal guys would have named it Kitty Hawk in the first place. The only reason the Wright Brothers went to North Carolina was the shortage of gay ground...

Appeals Court: Cirrus not responsible for plane crash that killed two

If you show up at the local Ford dealer with a used F-150, they're not about to talk you out of trading up to a F-350. In the good old days, the local Cessna salesman would do the same thing. Your kidding yourself if you think any 172 owner got denied their 210 except for a credit check.

Different standard of performance? The auto industry has developed automatic parallel-parking devices that two years ago were the exclusive province of Lexus drivers, but are now available in a Ford Escape. There are plenty of old Comanches that have handbrake levers. There are plenty of...

    Where it all began...

Other than the fact that those Wright Brothers guys were from Ohio... I've always thought it was annoying that the state of North Carolina claimed, "First in Flight" on their license plates. That's like putting "Home of Madoff" on NY state license plates. "First in Favorable Winds", might be...

Speaking of fuel tanks, there were a bunch of judgements against Ford over the Pinto - not sure what Ford ended up paying out, though. And there's some current litigation over the Police Interceptor Crown Vics, IIRC.
