Possibly reported for VFR on Top

To the OP: I have been vectored around many "aircraft x-oclock, reporting xxxx, unverified." It would be very helpful if VFR aircraft, especially near weather, would talk to the controllers. If you are talking to them, they can verify your reported altitude and not have to issue as many vectors...

KWVI Watsonville MId Air, Multiple Fatalities

I remember when AC 90-66B was published. One of the main reasons it was published was because "jerks on final" were using the fact that they were on a long "final" to take priority and bust into a bunch of aircraft in the pattern. It was intended to remove the 'loophole' that was created by 14...

KWVI Watsonville MId Air, Multiple Fatalities

Are you reading the same doc as you quoted??? AC 90-66B goes into great detail in 9.5 and 9.6 that pilots not flying the standard pattern should "so as not to disrupt the flow of other aircraft", "avoid interrupting the flow of traffic", and "should bear in mind they do not have priority over...

Aviation implications of W. VA vs EPA

I think it is more of a case where the agency was set up for one goal, but then later the agency created additional goals that were greater in scope than the original goal. The way I read the decision is that an agency may refine, and even move the goal posts some, but when the goal posts are no...

    Sales Tax on Purchase

You are correct. If you buy elsewhere, then move it to FL after 6 months, there is no payment to Florida. Also, have your tax guy check into a S-Corp instead of an LLC in FL. As a non-resident it may be different, but for us FL residents, there is no real tax savings between and LLC and an...

    Avionics Stack Order

Opinion: If, and I mean IF(!), there is enough slack in the wires to move the complete stack (except the DME) down a hole or two, have your avionics guy remove the DME and it's antenna , then, let him see how much he can slide the rack down without rewiring. If you can get 2 holes lower that...

[NA] Door to door roof replacement sales

We just did a partial replacement at our church in Orlando, about $24k, and it took them 5 months to get the materials and to get it scheduled. This is the same roofer that we have used for 30+ years. (The partial was because we had an addition that is not on the same cycle as the rest of the...

[NA] Door to door roof replacement sales

The scam is that they file against the insurance company to pay claiming 'hail damage in the past'. Even on roofs that are just worn out. It is what has driven up insurance rates in Florida over the past. The whole pitch is the "I can get you a free roof."

[NA] Door to door roof replacement sales

(in Florida) A few years ago, I needed to replace my roof. I called a reputable company and we agreed to a price. A few days later, one of those door-to-door companies came by and told me my roof was shot. I said "yes, it's 23 years old". (FYI, anything over 20 years in central florida is past...

Trent Palmer (YouTuber Bush Pilot Channel) Suspended By FAA

It appears this one has boiled down to the point that no one is listening to what the other side is trying to say because nobody wants to be wrong, even when they have posted something stupid.

Trent Palmer (YouTuber Bush Pilot Channel) Suspended By FAA

I would not be surprised that someone decided to Hoover him due to his videos. But, if the Judge really said (to the effect) that since he aborted the landing, he can not use the "for landing" clause, then the judge needs to be removed from the bench for stupidity.

    Max distance between GPS waypoints?

Going from Central FL (KSFB) to Chattanooga, I had leaned to never file direct as it put me right over downtown Atlanta. So, I would file to a waypoint either to the East or West, outside the Bravo. On more than one occasion, I was offered "direct destination'. I declined after trying it just...

Tell me what you think of this flight profile.

What is the qualifications of the pilot? Is he low-time private or is he commercial rated? Low-level, tight turns and such may be part of the training for a private, but maybe some special training should be required. If he is getting any 'compensation' for the flight, then that might trigger...

Lance down St, George, UT 3/24/22

Unfortunately, I don't buy the engine out statement due to the flight tracking info. With the speed he had that could have been traded for a real good engine out range. Has anyone found any radio recordings? We will have to see what comes from the investigation. Has anyone seen any pics that...

Lance down St, George, UT 3/24/22

Continuing my thoughts. Another possibility was that he broke out and dropped the gear at too high a speed and the nose did not go green. (It won't lock if too fast.) Then, he got distracted with the gear and let if descend into the ground.

Lance down St, George, UT 3/24/22

I find this one "interesting". Looking at the flight log, he seems to be flying right down the approach, but hit the ground. The track log shows twice that he was "Surface and Near-Surface", once at 6924' and 3954', with the latter being the next to the last tracking. But, that was followed by a...
