    CAPS saves a family

Oh comeon. CAPS absolutely saved them. If the guy landed with 5 gallons and forgot to get gas… who are we kidding here. Lucky he remembered where the CAPS deploy from.

Charged With DUI When I Wasn’t Driving

I doubt the cops wanted to harass him. Once a call was made to the PD about possible drunk driver, they have no choice but to pursue it to the end. Arrest etc.

Garmin vs Jeppesen Revisited WHICH ONE IS BEST AND CHEAPEST?

Nice. But ughhh I just found out that Garmin does not provide updates for the GNS430(NON WAAS). SO I have to pay jeppesen for that update....at this point then its cheapr for me to stick to Jeppesen. Frustrating. WTF Garmin. Another company updates your hardware but you cant. What a POS

    Oil Warmer Question

There are no old pilots in my opinion...because if youre flying at 90 you are still young :) Anyhow... gonna wait for my egg warmer in the mail and put oil and hach some eggs in it!!!!

    Oil Warmer Question

There are not many Old Bald pilots(I am inclined to dispute that) but are there many Old Bush Pilots? The more times I take off Cowling the more chances it will crack or I forget to tighten something...and then oil leaves me in the air, along with clean underwear.

Garmin vs Jeppesen Revisited WHICH ONE IS BEST AND CHEAPEST?

I use foreflight charts..dont plan on using the unit for that. Also I found out Jeppesen does not provide any Terrain or Obstacle data. That to me is the deciding factor. Jeppesen: "AMERICAS" annual package for two units(GNS530W, GNS430) NAV only $720 USD. GARMIN "AMERICAS" annual...

Garmin vs Jeppesen Revisited WHICH ONE IS BEST AND CHEAPEST?

Hope I dont have to do DME arcs anytime soon. So the GNS530W wont jump to autoselect ILS and or to LOC(Magenta). Confused here.

Garmin vs Jeppesen Revisited WHICH ONE IS BEST AND CHEAPEST?

I use Foreflight. But darn OSH is long ways away. Need to find a discount code :). I am not cute enough(theid pay me not to) to represent them no matter how many pics I take with my plane on tictoc or youtube :) :) wearing garmin watches etc.

    Oil Warmer Question

That ended up being the perfect solution. I bought one and it costs as much as a small fridge..but I can also grow chickens. and wont need to buy lamps, thermostats, etc. :)...

    Oil Warmer Question

Cool stuff. Found myself looking at what fluids you use :) I like the ceramic heat and thermostat...But I am finding the Power Bar working great...a low watt one. Stuffed it in an old minifridge and voila oil warm. :)

    Stratux ADSB question

Is STRATUX like a poor mans version of a STRATUS? Cause Ive had my STRATUS for 5 years and I dont need antennas. But this reminds me if you need better reception, my grandpa used to wrap aluminum foil on TV antennas? Maybe that will work. ;)

Garmin vs Jeppesen Revisited WHICH ONE IS BEST AND CHEAPEST?

Looking at pricing to update the GNS530W (IFR Use) and the GNS430 on my new plane. I have never had to do the database updates. Ive seen the discussions over the years but its been a while so wanted to see what the latest oppinion is. Strange thing is that my plane came with the Jeppesen...

    N4187Q PA32 Down in Georgia

Its human nature to "Quarterback on Monday Morning". I think we can all raise our hand as guilty on this. Its less about the unfortunate soul/s but more about us as individuals trying to find reason, accept, and convince ourselves that we perhaps would have gotten out of that situation. I...

    N4187Q PA32 Down in Georgia

Your comments are spot on. When I first started reading your post I had to double check I didnt write it :). We fly over Lake Michigan and Erie. We added life jackets and a raft to at least ease our mind that we are prepared. Before going over water I do the same thing. Double check...

    N4187Q PA32 Down in Georgia

I wonder if he would have seen it, closed and lighs not working, and dark out? But at least maybe have a chance. Sucks. Not that the outcome would have neccesarily been different but I avoid flying at night, and when I do I always feel that its a big gamble. The risks we take.

    N4187Q PA32 Down in Georgia

I read that he was a super nice guy with lots of experience and lost power. ATC was vectoring him away from a closed nearby airport, and he ran out of time. :( https://www.al.com/news/2023/11/pilot-presumed-dead-in-etowah-county-plane-crash.html?outputType=amp

    Oil Warmer Question

Good thought about the goldenrod. I bought one to keep pannel dry. Have not used it yet. They do seen to get hot however...burned my finger grabbing it. I think I need a shorter goldenrod (thats what she said :) ) for the plane. Seems like a fire hazard hot.

    Oil Warmer Question

First time owner here. Nesting as I am a week from bringing the baby home. Oil Warmer: In my current club hangar we have a small insulated fridge looking box that someone built and it has a bulb keeping the quarts of standby oil warm. Looks like a small old fridge. Its great that the oils is...

    Richard McSpadden Crash

If you are too low for a turnaround, then usually you took off INTO the wind. You may not have to turn much. It is another reason the currently best practice method is to land within the 60 degree v shaped area in front of you INTO THE WIND!!
