    Icing Go/No Go practice problem

Tony, Just my personal opinion - perhaps an oversimplification of the original question (and not the answer you were looking for), but... Unless you are a very experienced pilot in an ice-approved airplane, if you aren't pretty darn sure that you can get back in and don't have the time to...

My plan of attack on the CFI certificate

HA! I dated a few fighter pilots back in the day, though they were active or RESV duty (not retired) - and I would have to agree! ;)

Well, we can sit and argue semantics all day long. I think the original poster probably gets the jist of what I'm trying to say. If not, he (or she) can certainly feel free to contact me privately about it. As to opening oneself up to examination, that is his personal choice. There are ways...

pilot IN COMMAND MEANS IN COMMAND

I wonder if she's the same one who used to lose us in the pattern at BFI... makes you wonder.

I don't know that the poster has or hasn't lied on his application. I am not suggesting that he should. However, in counseling someone for their career, I would NEVER suggest to that he divulge anything that he is not REQUIRED to by law. The idea that people are going to 'confess' that once...

Base salary? Nobody. But add open flying and it's a completely different picture. One CA I know made over 400K last year - do you think he's sorry he didn't wait for two more years?! Even without interest OR a pension plan, that's $800,000.00. Yes, and so did his time in the right seat. 5...

    My daughter's beautiful poem

Very impressive... I recall doing some of my best work at 15 too! Sometimes I miss it, but I doubt I could accomplish what I did then. Tell her to keep writing! :)

    Cost for Jet Type rating?

I don't know if Int'l trans-oceanic flying is necessarily more challenging than flying a 19 seat turbo-prop into a non-tower airport in a snow storm at night using an NDB alone, in the mountains, on minimum rest and on 135 duty time regs - those guys work pretty hard! But I do agree that...

TM, I have to respectfully disagree with how much it can cost - 2 years X $300,000 or more = $600,000.00! PLUS the fact that many pension plans (where they still exist) base your reitirement income of a variety of factors, including last year's pay, average pay over the last x number of...

I have to say, reading this entire thread has surprised me. As someone who has been exposed to the professional side of the aviation industry for 15+ years, I will also tell you that the attitudes of professionals vs. hobbyist pilots can differ significantly. I'm not sure what everyone here...
