Ellington is also a viable alternative to HOU.

    Choice in Aircraft Engines

The only airframe that I recall allowed for a choice of engines was the Bellanca Super Viking. They offered both the Continental and the Lycoming engines but there was a price difference of about $2,000 in 1973 dollars.

Beech 99, what is the purpose?

I flew 99s into some interesting places however and unfortunately, not in Alaska. I landed at Wonder Valley Ranch's one-way strip with the stone wall at the end of the runway in the Sierra Nevada foothills. I plopped into Santa Paula airport in the Los Angeles area when Oxnard went below...

Pulled the trigger - I am dumb - Kate 1.5 coming soon

Thank you. I wish I could take credit for it but the avionics shop I used really knows its business. They are not the least expensive but the quality of their work I'm more than satisfied with.

Pulled the trigger - I am dumb - Kate 1.5 coming soon

I didn't install the GFC500 this time around. Maybe in a couple years. New interior comes first. But I will miss the mode selector for the G5’s flight director.

What constitutes low/med/high time to you

Ummm, NO! (It's just pieces of vanity I don't wish to loose myself of).

What constitutes low/med/high time to you

Interesting question. I don't really think of time as much as I think of experience. What did a pilot do in all those hours? Are they currently proficient? All our skills are perishable if not used and reinforced. We may become rusty in some areas and keep other skills polished. Judgment comes...

Parking at an airport w/ no FBO

I once had to make a go-around for the eight-footer crossing Runway 9L at Ft. Lauderdale Int'l. (KFLL). Don't discount the large crabs hiding in the grass just off the ramp either, they want their cut.

I recently had some upgrades done by Temple. Some may have other opinions, but as of right now, I'm satisfied.

    Air-to-Air Piper Navajo

Most of those airplanes are in my logbooks. I started with CalAir in '85 and left Ameriflight in 2000.

I use the tach for time-in-service for maintenance but I also write down block times.

Beech 99, what is the purpose?

I expect so. The Sky Courier looks similar to the Twin Otter but I’ve read it has a longer wingspan, 72ft Vs the Twin Otter’s 65 ft.

Beech 99, what is the purpose?

When Armor Transport owned most of the company Gary would have the PA31s completely rebuilt and refurbished at 10,000 hours. I have probably 800 hours in those aircraft.

Beech 99, what is the purpose?

I have about 3,100 hours in AMF 99s. I flew them and the Twin Otters and moved into the Lear before they started operating 1900s and Metros. Alas, the Lears are gone along with the Otters, the PA31s, CE208s, PA32Rs, Aztecs, Cheyenne and MU-2.

    Fly-In locations in CA

It’s been 36 years since I camped at Catalina’s Blackjack Campground. I expect there have been a few changes since then. I did land there last summer on the new runway. As far as other places to go, I really enjoyed camping at Kern Valley last July and Payson has a nice camping area on the...
