    What's For Dinner?

What's on the menu for tonight? Or just some favorite dinners? Pictures and recipes are not necessary but are happily received. I've been in a bit of a rut recently food-wise and it's hard to find good suggestions online that aren't just pasta dishes or twelve different ways to prepare chick...

    2024 Goals

My 2024 goal is to get comfortable in the airspace around here. It's a lot busier and more complicated than I'm used to, and it's stopping me from flying like I would want to be otherwise. I also want to fix this: Because the answer is no, I haven't got 2-Bit Speed in the air yet with all the...

The Pilots of America Unofficial Hall of Fame, Troll Edition

The thread in pilot training sent me down a rabbit hole discovering "troll gold" from years past, and I've had a very entertaining morning with some truly ludicrous threads. Despite the amount of absolute hilarity and stupidity involved in some of them, there was such a surprising amount of good...

    Cat is My Copilot

...or at least my partner in planning! She is finding this to be great fun and firmly believes that I got out this special toy just for her. She does not believe me when I tell her that I got it out for me. She asserts that paper maps are the best and always will be. It is very hard to...

    Christmas Is Almost Here...

...and I am not ready for it yet! :p I still have presents to wrap, Christmas cards to send, and about twenty other things to do! How are everyone else's plans for Christmas coming? Any exciting places or things going on? Who's getting an airplane for Christmas? ;)

    Part Two Needed?

I was thinking that maybe we needed a part two of this thread with the hullabaloo happening around the joint... https://www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/tell-me-you-got-your-feelings-hurt-without-telling-me-you-got-your-feelings-hurt.138959/ It seems a lot of hurt feelings are running...

    Using Trim to Climb?

I was reading the thread in Aviation Mishaps that has turned into a discussion about the seat sliding back on takeoff, and got to thinking about what to do if that happened. I always try to rock the seat backwards and forwards a couple of times when I'm buckling up, but I like having game plans...

    Help Identifying Avionics

I think this is a Garmin G300, but does anyone know for sure? I am thinking of potentially renting this plane and I'd like to read up on the avionics before I do, so I don't go in blind and clueless. I emailed the FBO, but anyone who knows is probably off for the weekend or something. :p

    Renter's Insurance?

I've been looking into a few places to rent an airplane from to get back into the air, and all the ones I have come across all require renter's insurance (understandably!). The outfit I am looking at renting from said I would only be responsible for paying their insurance deductible should...

    Solo Touch-n-Goes

Why do some schools not allow solo touch-n-goes? I was reading the thread about the student who crashed while solo, and a poster mentioned that during dual lessons, the CFI would work the flaps for the touch-n-goes. That seems like a very dangerous practice, as in my mind, it would lead to the...

Airplane Rentals North of Jacksonville, FL

I am looking for a rental to do a little bit of flying and try to keep at least some of my skills from rusting irreparably. I've been doing some online research and contacting the FBOs at the airports around me, but have been striking out in a rather spectacular way. Does anyone have any...

    Anyone Know...???

I just spent about an hour searching through the IACRA website and the FAA website. There are no options, guidance, or obvious ways to change your name on your pilot's license. I guess it makes sense, since there aren't too many women who have pilots licenses, and there's probably even fewer...

    Conventional vs. Tricycle

The thread over in Aviation Mishaps that's devolved into an argument about conventional vs. trike has got me wondering. Why is there such animosity between people who prefer taildraggers and those who prefer nosewheel airplanes? Does anyone know? I've flown (but not landed!) a taildragger...

Navy Training Flight Down in TX

https://www.navy.mil/Press-Office/Press-Releases/display-pressreleases/Article/2780932/navy-t-45c-goshawk-crashes-in-lake-worth-texas-no-fatalities/ I didn't see or hear this one, but I was less than twenty miles at the time. No deaths, but sounds like the instructor and student got pretty beat up.

Why One and Not the Other?

The thread about the girl flying around the world got me wondering why people are so concerned about percentages of men and women in certain fields, particularly percentage of women involved. It seems like it is more important to people that the percentages be as near to equal as possible...

    Coolest and Craziest Aviation Stories

So, I'm riding back with my family across the central US (for what seems like the millionth time in the last month or two). After spending more time on the phone than is probably good for me, finishing several books, and entertaining an eight year old for a few hours, I'm rather bored of staring...

    Finding New Airport?

I'm currently making a temporary move to the south side of Dallas (Waxahachie). I'm not going to be sticking around for long (less than 6 months), so I can't exactly join a club or anything, but I'd like to do some flying if possible. Does anyone have local knowledge of rental planes or area...

    Third Time's the Charm?

Well, I've got attempt #3 for my checkride scheduled - currently slated for June 1st. Do you think it'll snow?! ;) I'm having a hard time believing that this might actually happen. It's a lot harder to get motivated to study this time around!

    Snow

It is going to snow during what was supposed to be my checkride this weekend. SNOW!!! Who gave it permission to do that?!?! So yeah, checkride attempt #2 is also a no-go, same reason as last time - crazy winds and snow. Third time's the charm? Whenever that is...
