Leasing time in aircraft to a non-pilot

    Fantastic reply. Thank you :-)

Leasing time in aircraft to a non-pilot

That's somewhat of a gross dramatization. Dry leases can be non-exclusive. That is, more than one lessee has access to the aircraft. As for maintenance, that's not specifically part of "operational control". Operational control deals with who flies the aircraft, where, and how. MX can be...

Leasing time in aircraft to a non-pilot

I had considered this as means of offsetting some of my fixed costs. Unfortunately, discovery/sightseeing flights now require letter of authorization from your local FSDO. Plus I'd have to do a 100-hr inspection, which adds considerably to my annual expenses. The last bit is insurance. My...

Leasing time in aircraft to a non-pilot

Thank you. This is exactly what I'm thinking. The airplane is own by an LLC, and the client would be leasing the airplane as nothing more than a piece of property. They would have full operational control. Hiring me as the pilot to fly their plan is no different than a company that owns a...

Leasing time in aircraft to a non-pilot

I'm curious to see what the regs say about a pilot and aircraft owner (myself), potentially leasing time in my aircraft (dry lease) to a non-pilot (i.e. a business owner who needs access to aircraft for regional business travel). That party would sign a dry-lease agreement to lease my aircraft...

Does a failed 2nd class Medical void my previous (and valid) 3rd class?

Interesting, so if I were to fail a 2nd class, the AME might - at his sole discretion - issue a 3rd class, provided I meet the criteria. This would enable me to continue flying under 3rd while obtaining a SODA for 2nd class. I will go and meet with an AME as a consultation to see if this is...

Does a failed 2nd class Medical void my previous (and valid) 3rd class?

Ah, thank you. I didn't realize there was a medical forum here. Bummer to hear that it would void any existing medicals. I just took delivery of a plane in order to build time, and I can't imagine having it sit and accrue costs while I get a SODA worked out for such a minor technicality.

Does a failed 2nd class Medical void my previous (and valid) 3rd class?

I have light amblyopia in my right eye, and the distant vision in that eye is only correctable to about 20/40. Vision in my left eye is 20/20, and my combined vision with both eyes is 20/20. However, 2nd class medical requires vision in each eye individually to be correctable to 20/20 (distant...

    Single Pilot Part 135

I will be closely watching this thread. A friend just took delivery of a brand new Cirrus S22T and is looking to fly as much as he can. I’d be curious to see how many total hours and hours in type he would need in order to be granted single pilot part 135. Also curious about whether there are...

    Good platform/app for aircraft management/scheduling

I would love to hear some suggestions on a good web-based platform for aircraft management and scheduling. I will be dry-leasing time in my single engine piston to 2-3 other pilots, and would love to integrate a seamless solution for scheduling, maintenance, and billing as well. I've noticed...

    Initial CFI failure rate

I think that a person’s pay is a reflection of their value. My babysitter charges $35/hr. Most CFIs with $100k+ in flight training debt can barely make that much. A person’s pay is a direct reflection of their value and experience.

    Initial CFI failure rate

PTS clearly and unambiguously states “possesses instructional proficiency” on every single area.

    VFR flight plan - why?

Me, whenever I fly with my wife or kids. Not so much for traffic advisories as for being on frequency should anything go wrong. With a code, you’ve got a hit brother watching your back.

Announcing on CTAF 15 miles out - why is this a thing?

Descending from cruise in a SR-22 I routinely hit 200mph ground speed. At that rate, I cover 15 miles in just over four minutes. Not as far as you’d think. Although don’t get me wrong, I do slow down to 100kts on the pattern entry.

    Initial CFI failure rate

Perhaps once CFIs are getting paid more than the local McDonald’s worker, we’ll be more incentivized to provide valuable instruction.

    Initial CFI failure rate

I’m waiting for my CFI initial. I reached out to two FSDOs. They’re telling me FAA no longer does initial CFI certification. Only through DPEs.

    Airline Autonomous flight technology

You forget the bigger piece of the puzzle. Public perception. No way in hell are 200 people going to board a domestic flight without a pilot behind the controls. I know I wouldn't. Hell, we don't even have autonomous trains yet. The best we can do is shuttle rail in airport terminals. The...

Best GA Airport Option for Brooklyn

FRG is your best bet. Stay away from Linden if you've never flown there. You'll be right underneath the approach/departure of Newark International with zero margin for error. They'll also take you to the cleaners when it comes to fuel.

    Safety Pilot- HPN

Just thought I'd post here. If there is another forum that's better suited for these kinds of posts, mods, feel free to move this. I am available on most weekdays to act as a safety pilot for anyone looking to stay IFR current. I am well versed in G1000 and C172/SR20/SR22. ASEL, CPL, IR...
