    Hike near airport in NYS

About your only choice in the park would be Lake Placid or Saranac. Placid had a free shuttle that ran into town, maybe they cold drop you off at a trail head, the ski jumps (right next to the airport), or Mt. Van Hoevenberg, which is cool (Bobsled run, ect.). Pete

    Autogas in Aeronca Champ?

Both of the above posts are accurate. The Delrin tip can swell as well. I have learned a bunch about carburetors and fuel since buying a Champ last spring, Mostly the hard way. Bottom line is that unless you know you have a stainless tipped valve do not use car gas, even ethanol free. It will...

    MOA airspace

If flying near MOA's don't overlook the MTR's. We are close to two MOA's and the VR route gets flown regularly and they are typically hauling the mail at low level heading to the MOA. Helicopters too.

    Would you bag this flight?

It could be a handful, I have a few hundred hours in a 150 and I generally avoided winds aloft over 25mph, (we are in the Mts.) but have flown in higher (yes watching cars pass me) and it has gone both ways, from nothing to it, to hanging on. If your instructor has good local knowledge, I would...

Seeking Advice on Purchase & Ownership

Hey Coolidge, I own a Champ and they are great little planes. They do have limitations though. There are also several things to consider when buying a old taildragger. Feel free to PM me and I would be happy to chat about Champs and what to look for when purchasing. Pete

student pilot looking to buy C150

I am in the process of finalizing a sale of a 150 that I have owned for several years. Careful, that $15,000 airplane could turn into a $30,000 airplane soon after you buy it with a engine with that many hours on it. You should be able to find a decent 150 with a mid time engine for under...

    Coast to Coast XC?

Never gone coast to coast, but bought a Champ in Fl this spring and flew it from Sebring to Northern NY with a friend. Took almost two months. The carb Sh**t the bed in SC and it stayed there for a month+ while we sent it out to get re-built. I erased my track from FL to SC by mistake, but we...

    Previous owner relationship

Oh yeah, No question. The plane was restored two years previously by one of them and signed off by his father in law. One may have been blissfully ignorant, but not the dude that restored it. Currently it flies great and while it wasn't cheap to get things right, it wasn't a huge amount of...

    Previous owner relationship

Two planes: I bought the Cessna from a friend and he is on the insurance and flies it on occasion, so we see each other all the time. I bough the Champ from two guys in Florida and haven't talked to them since and won't. Although I love the plane, after getting it home and doing a extensive...
