What is going on here (Live ATC New York weird exchange)

There are morons in ATC and morons in cockpits but my sense is that it’s difficult for morons to end up in NY Approach Control. More difficult than say morons in cockpits flying into NY airspace though I’m not even remotely suggesting that’s the case here. I’m thinking ‘facts not in evidence’...

What Did You Enjoy During Your Build

I did the QB wings and fuse but regretted not doing the SB fuse just because it was different than the empennage (the wing is just more of the same with fuel tank goop added). If you have access to a quality paint shop setup, painting as you go might work. But without that, and particularly...

What Did You Enjoy During Your Build

I built and now fly an RV10. Some thoughts… - I grew up with model airplanes and though I was always a flier vs a builder, I learned early on (1960s) that building was the best way to get what you wanted to fly. Best because it was building was personally satisfying. And flying what you...

My plane out of service, looking for fun things to do

You are going to get your IR in your plane; I so get that. I take it that you’re not chasing a flying career but doing it for fun and transport and whatever. I’d second 2 of the suggestions made here. 1) Doing a week or a couple of immersive weekends at a glider school to get your glider...

    Power Setting on missed approach

In my 260hp fixed gear RV10, once cleared for the approach the prop goes to 2400 and I’m generally flying with 23” and one notch of flaps which is takeoff flaps. From that point on, I only work the throttle until DH or missed. With that setup, i give full throttle on the miss and really...

More multi engine time worth it?

I guess the job market is always supply/demand driven like any marketplace. Right time, right place (luck) has always been a big factor. Showing up on time, with the goods helps a lot too Over the past several weeks I’ve been surprised to see a number of high $$ TV spots encouraging people to...

Just talking hypoxia makes me dizzy

Just interpreting the words, the difference may be that CO is not toxic and damaging tissue, it just impairs the ability of blood to work the way it should. Cyanide is toxic and destroys tissue. Talking out of my ass, I’m thinking the CO hypoxia can be stopped and possibly reversed without...

Surefly mag - any advantage if I can't run Lean of Peak ?

Probably gain more by not upgrading the mag and just diving into LOP ops. Nobody’s POH from that era says it’s okay but if it’s injected and instrumented, you can do it. You will save $$$. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

How does ‘using the can’ work on a light 4 place aircraft?

My buddy who was a C5 flight engineer gave me a tour of beast. Besides a cockpit there’s a whole apartment up front for the crew. And in the rear above where all the cargo goes there’s a cabin like on a small Regional jet. The crew cabin and passenger cabins aren’t really connected except...

How does ‘using the can’ work on a light 4 place aircraft?

That’ll work, but this avoids confusion. Confusion could ruin one’s day in several ways. …and it’s ergonomically correct. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

How does ‘using the can’ work on a light 4 place aircraft?

I saw that too. I think it was just some glitch in the data. Just to be clear and possibly end this mildly entertaining thread, we don’t stop for bladder distress. We have tools for bladder distress. The gel packs work well for men and women though I prefer the Little John Portable Urinal...

How does ‘using the can’ work on a light 4 place aircraft?

FYI, The video is harmless - just a Foreflight log with some narration. And a complete waste of time. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

How does ‘using the can’ work on a light 4 place aircraft?

Well, I was being overly decent. I know there have been multiple threads about ‘range extenders’, Gatorade bottles and what have you for relieving oneself on long flights in small planes. Initially I thought everyone did it or least was prepared to do it but in fact, many people are uptight...

Not even close. Pure aviation …but obviously not funny or entertaining in the least. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

How does ‘using the can’ work on a light 4 place aircraft?

Thank You! For me it was a useful exercise in reviewing Foreflight’s flight logging capabilities. I remembered the flight and wanted to see if it told the story. It did a pretty good job I thought. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

How does ‘using the can’ work on a light 4 place aircraft?

On Facebook I was asked how ‘the can’ works on a small airplane. Made me think of a recent flight in the Bahamas and with ForeFlight’s help I was able to put together this hopefully informative video. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Experimental aircraft identifier on radio calls

I use “Experimental 326UH” for my RV10 on all calls but I fly almost exclusively IFR so ATC usually knows the type. Seems strange to say the letters “RV” rather the “Romeo Victor” but obviously “RV” works well. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

    Today I learned…

Or at least finally figured out why some congested airspace controllers were happily giving help getting me into a normally busy airport, for a visual approach, during a frontal passage. I would have thought they would be putting me in a conga line for one of the ILS/RNAV approaches waiting for...
