How hard is it to build an airplane?

I believe that Jesse knows David very well; probably better than most on this board. Based on Jesse's statement I think David would be well advised to heed what Jesse said. Jesse politely conveyed a realistic assessment of David's current position in life. ;)

    (NA) Texas Toll Roads Question

Enjoy it. In my little Georgia town and surrounding county the police cars now have cameras that read license plates and do instant database searches to determine if the tag is valid, the car has valid insurance, and the assumed driver does not have any outstanding warrants. I frequently see a...

    Some people are fast burners!

I believe it is generally accepted that maturity comes with age. However, that age varies a great deal between individuals. In the FBO at the field I grew up at we had several familiar cartoons/posters on the wall. "There are old pilots and there are bold pilots but there are no old, bold...

    Sick-out at American?

And back in the day at that airport, at least for my initiation when I soloed, I was carried by more guys than I could overcome and tossed into the drainage canal that paralleled the runway. None of that wimpy t-shirt cutting stuff back then. Of course I was voluntarily in that canal on...

    Sick-out at American?

To relate this to aviation, do you remember Brown's Airport that was east of U. S. 1 and slightly south of 104th street? I don't remember exactly when it turned into a housing development but that is the airport where I was the airport kid and learned to fly.

    foreclosure, will you come?

I don't know the official answer. However, I don't think the mortgage would be much of an asset were it not secured by the property. A 30-year unsecured personal loan for a couple of hundred thousand dollars would not be much of an asset, would it?

    foreclosure, will you come?

Many have said in this and other forums that many people obtained mortgages knowing, or they should have known, or the lenders probably knew, that they would probably not be able to repay them. But if someone obtains insurance knowing that the insurance company is going to lose that is okay...

    foreclosure, will you come?

Okay. How about if he can get health insurance in spite of the preexisting condition but knows that the insurance company is going to pay out a lot more than he is ever likely to pay in. Still okay? You might think of this as buying a mortgage on his health but knowing up front that the...

    foreclosure, will you come?

For those who are keen on the ethics part of this discussion, how about a different scenario. Suppose that an ordinary man living a lower income life with minor children and a working wife is diagnosed with a severe medical condition that requires expensive surgery and post surgery recovery...

    Flying Affordability

Spoken by a young man who has in the past complained about his appearance. :D

    I ain't covered - life insurance

So if a guy gets wiped out riding his Harley to Sturgis do they not pay based on number 2 "mental infirmity" or number 3 "participation in a riot"? I'd say that policy issuer is pretty intent on not ever paying. :D

    Tide Coldwater Laundry Detergent (N/A)

I don't think near as much energy is used to maintain the temperature as compared to the energy used to heat the water from inlet temperature to outlet temperature. And if he is as cheap as he says, he probably has extra insulation on his tank. :wink2: The idea of an on-demand heater is also...

    Tide Coldwater Laundry Detergent (N/A)

Consumer Reports rates Tide Cold Water at number 4 and a "good" rating for cleaning. Only the top 3 received a "very good" for cleaning and there were no "excellent". If electricity is cheap why don't you get a smaller size electric water heater and install it in series with your gas water...

Piston engine reliability (questions for high time pilots and mechanics)

But there are thousands of pilots, not just 44,582. So I don't think the 4.5% works for me because I intend to be one of the many, many thousands that doesn't buy one of those 44,582 tickets. :)

Piston engine reliability (questions for high time pilots and mechanics)

I'm easily confused. How do you arrive at 4.5% after 2,000 hours. The way I read the numbers is that if we divide the 1,000,000 by 22.43 unlucky people then every 44,583 hours one person dies. I see that 2,000 hours is about 4.5% of the 44,583 but I don't understand how that applies to me...

    Neil Armstrong's Warning

Thanks, Henning, I will try to find that. Thinking about Eisenhower reminds me that during his administration the top tax bracket was 91% and the tax code even allowed we young adults to deduct the dreaded credit card interest on our tax returns. He was also the last Republican to have a...

    Neil Armstrong's Warning

One group of politicians say that we must increase defense spending, not cut it. Perhaps left unsaid is them knowing of some kind of advance in military weapons that is going to be a future savior of our country? Maybe they know about new rocket technology to be developed for weapons delivery...

    Buying a project plane

You guys just don't get it. I have heard and read several statements this week by honorable politicians who state that we can be energy independent by 2020 if we merely allow the oil companies more drilling rights. We don't need any of that "modern thinking" for solving non-existent...

    My whine

David, Others have hinted or said so outright but I'm another who wishes that you would stop putting yourself down. You have shown by your posts and the posts of others who know you that in your 17 years you have accomplished more than many folks do in their entire lifetimes. I understand...
